REVIEW: Yes, We’re Telling You to Make Reservations for This Disney World Restaurant…Again

Not every Disney meal is about speed — some are about the experience.

Chocolate cake? Yes, please.

The Hollywood Brown Derby Restaurant has built a reputation as one of the most polished dining spots in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, offering a break from the park’s high-energy pace. Whether you’re celebrating something special or just ready to slow down, this restaurant aims to deliver something more memorable than your average park meal.

Background

The Hollywood Brown Derby is one of those restaurants that feels like it belongs to a different era, in the best way possible. Inspired by the original Brown Derby restaurant in Hollywood, which opened in the 1920s and quickly became a hotspot for movie stars, studio executives, and Hollywood insiders, this Disney version leans fully into Old Hollywood glamour. The iconic derby-shaped restaurant was known not just for its celebrity clientele, but for helping define classic American fine dining during Hollywood’s Golden Age.

Check-in area

At Disney World, The Hollywood Brown Derby pays homage to that legacy through its elegant atmosphere, signature dishes, and walls lined with caricatures of famous celebrities. From the moment you step inside, the restaurant feels quieter and more refined than much of the park around it — almost like a pause button on the chaos of Hollywood Studios. It’s designed to evoke the glamour, charm, and indulgence of classic Hollywood dining, making it a longtime favorite for visitors looking for a more upscale table-service experience without leaving the park.

Here’s what you need to know about dining at this restaurant.

Atmosphere

Walking into The Hollywood Brown Derby genuinely feels like taking a step out of Disney’s Hollywood Studios and into a completely different pace. The noise level drops almost immediately, the lighting softens, and suddenly you’re not thinking about your next Lightning Lane — you’re thinking about sitting down and actually enjoying a meal. It’s one of those rare park restaurants where you can feel your shoulders relax the second you’re seated.

Hollywood Brown Derby

The space itself leans into Old Hollywood without being over-the-top about it. White tablecloths, dark wood, and those iconic celebrity caricatures line the walls, giving the restaurant personality without feeling busy or distracting. It’s polished but comfortable, and the dining rooms are laid out in a way that feels surprisingly intimate for a theme park restaurant. Even when the restaurant is full, it never feels chaotic or loud.

One of the booths

What really stands out about the Brown Derby’s atmosphere is how intentional it feels. This isn’t a place meant for a quick bite between rides — it’s designed for slowing down. You’re encouraged to linger, have a real conversation, maybe order a second drink, and enjoy the fact that you’re sitting somewhere that feels calm and a little bit special. On a packed park day, that kind of environment is a luxury.

Inside

It’s especially well-suited for adults, celebrations, or anyone who wants a break from the high-energy vibe of the park surrounding it. The Brown Derby doesn’t try to compete with the park’s theming, instead it offers a contrast. And honestly, that’s what makes it such a standout.

But enough about that, what are we eating?!

Food & Drinks

First up, we need to note that the menu at Hollywood Brown Derby has changed since we visited it, but many of these items return throughout the year (the menu tends to be seasonal).

To drink, we picked up the Margarita Flight for $18.50. This is made up of three smaller portions of margaritas to sample in Classic, Blood Orange, and Pomegranate. Considering a full-size version of any one of these drinks will cost you around $20, we’d say it’s a great deal!

Margarita Flight

First up, you get a Classic Margarita, which tastes like a regular lime margarita. This is your basic classic margarita with the salt rim. If you like a standard margarita, you’ll like this one.

Classic

Then things got interesting with the Pomegranate Margarita, which has a lot of tangy and fruity pomegranate flavor. This one has a sugar rim, which adds to the sweetness of the drink. We also like the addition of a cherry in it.

Pomegranate

The third margarita is the Blood Orange Margarita. This one is tangy, but has a sugar rim to cut down on the tartness. You also get a really forward citrus flavor with each sip.

Blood Orange

Our meal started with the Bread Service. The bread rolls here are delicious, although they’re really just basic bread and butter.

Bread service

We like that the butter is unsalted, but it has some sea salt shavings on top.

Butter

We also think the rolls have somehow gotten even better. They’re soft and easy to pull apart. They’re toasted just a little bit, so you get a hint of firmness on the outside.

These rolls!

First up, we grabbed the Sake-braised Pork Belly for $18. This is made with Apple-Ginger Purée, Shiitake Mushrooms, Tasso Ham, and Shiso. The pork belly is incredibly tender and just melts in your mouth. The sake braise adds a subtle sweetness to the meat, which also has a slight crisp in some places.

The apple-ginger purée helped cut through the richness of the dish. The mushrooms add a slight earthiness, but they’re mixed in with the smoky bits of ham, and with the shiso, those bites just combine flavors in the best ways possible.

Look at that tender meat

We also got the Crispy Green Beans for $10. The first thing you notice is that you can really smell the garlic aioli, along with the truffle oil. The green beans have been tossed in breading and fried, giving them a nice crunch. However, they also had a wonderful flavor with an interesting twist. The sauce also complements with a nice zing.

Crispy Green Beans

We noticed a few new menu items had debuted recently, so you know we had to try them both out!

Our first new plate to try out was the Half Roasted Chicken for $41. It’s made with White Bean Purée, Braised Cipollini Onion, Butter-poached Carrot, Roasted Mushroom, and Mustard Sauce. First, we loved how the white bean purée and mustard sauce added a nice tanginess to the chicken. We loved dipping our chicken pieces into that. But the chicken itself is also well seasoned and tender.

Half-roasted chicken

The mushrooms add some earthiness, but it’s balanced by all the other flavors. This could have been a pretty boring herb chicken, but the addition of everything else on the plate elevates it.

Perfectly cooked

We also ordered the Vegetable Lentil Pie for $33. It’s made of Merlot-braised Black Lentil, Truffled Mashed Potato, Glazed Root Vegetables, and marked as a plant-based dish. This is like a fancier version of a vegetarian shepherd’s pie. And although our reporter isn’t a huge vegetable fan, this won her over. However, it’s the truffled mashed potato that is the star of the dish. They’ve got a saltier taste with a hint of truffle flavor, like a high-end version of regular mashed potatoes.

Vegetable lentil pie

The lentils had a nice soft structure, but weren’t super mushy. The other vegetables also worked well with the other ingredients overall. This is a great plant-based option for those who want that on a menu, and still have something that feels more than just a regular dish of vegetables.

The mashed potatoes

To wind down our full meal, we HAD to grab a dessert before we left. So we decided on the Decadent Chocolate Cake for $14. It’s made of Towering Chocolate Cake, Dark Chocolate Mousse, and Whipped Ganache. It lives up to its name. It’s soft, rich, and decadent. The raspberry sauce just adds a nice tartness to it all, and we almost wished it were INSIDE the cake.

Decadent chocolate cake

This is what we would call a solid piece of chocolate cake, and the perfect way to end a meal at Hollywood Brown Derby. However, it is VERY rich, so you might want to consider sharing.

It’s so rich

So, overall, are we still impressed with Hollywood Brown Derby?

Magic or Tragic?

This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…

  • You’re looking for the best quality food and drinks in Hollywood Studios. If you don’t mind splurging, this is the restaurant to get reservations for. The dining experience, food, and drinks here are elevated, making this nothing like a typical theme park meal.
  • You’re really into those old Hollywood vibes. This restaurant is a throwback to the heyday of Disney-MGM Studios, and you’ll feel like you’re walking the red carpet to eat here with the celebrity caricatures on the walls, as well as the restaurant’s overall atmosphere.
  • You want variety. As we mentioned, the menu here changes often. While some menu items will never leave, like the Famous Cobb Salad and Grapefruit Cake, you’ll find that everything else will vary depending on when you visit.

You should skip this Disney World spot if…

  • You have kids in your party. This is not really a kid-pleasing restaurant. There’s no Mickey. There aren’t even bright and colorful decorations. Although kids CAN dine here, they’re probably not going to love it, especially when they know they could be hanging out in Toy Story Land instead.
  • You have picky eaters in your group. Picky eaters aren’t going to find much on the menu here to please them. If you’ve got folks who want burgers and chicken tenders, you’ll just want to skip this restaurant and hit up one of the quick-service dining spots instead.
  • You’re using the Disney Dining Plan. If you want to use the Disney Dining Plan on a meal here, it will cost you TWO table service credits. If you don’t plan on ordering cocktails and the more expensive items on the menu, you’ll end up spending more for this meal than if you’d just paid for it out of pocket.
