This Disney World secret can help you live out a die-hard Disney fan’s DREAM!

Star Tours

Being chosen to be the Rebel Spy on Star Tours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Disney World or Disneyland is — frankly — one of the highest Disney honors that exists. A Rebel Spy is selected at random among the ride’s passengers and appears on a video screen in the cabin during the ride — fully integrating “the chosen one” into the attraction’s narrative. Getting selected is a difficult task, but former Disney World Cast Members on the AllEars team are spilling the secret!

According to our team, there are a few things that you can do to increase your chances of getting chosen as the Rebel Spy. With that said, Cast Members always make the final call — so be on your best behavior!!!

We suggest riding during low wait times because logic says fewer people means less competition.

It also helps if you’re wearing a celebration button and/or wearing Star Wars apparel. It doesn’t guarantee you’ll be picked — after all, so many people sport both during a typical Disney day — but you will stand out a bit.

The biggest tip we can give you is to make sure your face is always visible. While other folks may be looking down at their phone, adjusting bags under their seat, or just shuffling about, you help your case by looking forward and presenting an easy target.

  1. I did lunch with an Imagineer back in 2019 and asked him how someone was picked. He told me it was Disney Magic.
Then in January 2022 I was the rebel spy! I was so excited that once the ride had ended I jumped up to talk to the rest of my party to make sure they hadn’t missed it (of course they hadn’t-I was only accompanied by my husband and son) and banged my thigh on one of the arm rests really, really hard. The bruise was about 6 inches across but luckily with it being January I wore jeans for most of the trip so no one could see it.
