FIRST LOOK At A NEW Character Coming To Magic Kingdom

A NEW Disney character is headed to Magic Kingdom!

In case you missed it, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is getting a makeover in Disney World. This attraction is getting updated ride vehicles, new targets, and a new scene. This new scene features a brand-new character, and we just got a first look at the robot, Buddy!

Everyone, meet Buddy! Buddy is the star of the new scene over at Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin. She is a friendly robot who works at Star Command and will play a key role in our experience on the attraction.

Over on Instagram, Walt Disney Imagineering shared a look inside the temporarily closed attraction to show us the new character. She is a support bot at Star Command, and her role is to help us get ready for our mission! She is going to make sure the blasters are fully calibrated, our star cruisers are ready, and give us time to practice our shot before the mission.

They even gave us a new, updated look at the new targets we’ll see on the attraction! Those Z targets are bright!

Disney Imagineer Mike confirmed that Buddy will now officially be part of the Toy Story franchise. They also noted that Buddy’s new scene focuses on the fun of this attraction as well as the families coming in and what they will experience.

Throughout the post, they gave us several close-up looks at the character. In one clip, you can see her bright green name tag, so every guest will know her name.

In another, Disney even shared that the code on her base is a nod to If You Had Wings, which was the attraction that was previously in this building. It originally opened in 1972, and it closed in 1989.

They shared that Buddy will have a “youthful, kid energy trapped in this big robot body.” Buddy will have “a feeling of play, this feeling of make-believe, this feeling of going on an adventure with your hero.”

Buddy is arguably the biggest addition to the attraction, so we loved getting to get a glimpse of her before the attraction reopens sometime in Spring 2026. It closed in August 2025, and Disney has yet to share an official opening date. Continue to follow AllEars for more Disney news and more.
