Disney World loves to keep us humble.

You can plan your entire EPCOT day down to the minute, know exactly which snacks to grab in the World Showcase, and still end up facing one of the most frustrating situations in the parks. If you’ve been taking our advice about which seats are actually the best on Disney rides, then this little-known rule might throw a wrench in your plans. Let’s talk about the slightly annoying extra step Disney adults have to take if they want the best seats in EPCOT.

You Can Ask, But You Might Have to Wait
At EPCOT, some of the best seats on rides are so popular that they come with their own separate line. That means even if you’ve waited your full turn in the main queue, you might not be boarding right away if you ask for those prime rows. Cast Members will often direct you to a separate area to wait for the next available vehicle that matches your request — and depending on the ride, that could take a while.

This happens most often on attractions where the seating arrangement changes the entire experience. On Soarin’ Around the World, for example, Disney pros know that the absolute best place to sit is Section B, Row 1. That’s the middle section and the very top row, giving you a perfect, undistorted view of the screen — no bent Eiffel Tower, no dangling feet. But here’s the thing: everyone else knows that too. So when you tell the Cast Member at loading that you’d like to wait for B1, you’ll often be directed off to the side to wait for the next available flight. And sometimes, that wait can be longer than the time you just spent in the standby line.
Why This Rule Exists
It’s not that Disney is trying to make your day harder. Ride operations depend on keeping every row filled, and letting everyone choose their row would slow things down drastically. Instead, Cast Members are trained to load each section evenly to keep wait times under control. When you ask for a specific seat — whether it’s the front, back, or center — you’re essentially asking to step out of that flow.

So rather than making everyone behind you wait, Disney asks you to step aside and wait for the next boarding opportunity. It’s fair, it’s efficient, and honestly, it’s still a little annoying when you’ve been standing in line for 45 minutes and just want to sit down and fly over Fiji already.
Where This Happens Most in EPCOT
Besides Soarin’, this can also pop up on Test Track. Thrill-seekers often want that front row driver’s seat — it gives the clearest view and makes the high-speed loop around the track feel extra intense. But if you ask for it, you may be held aside until the next car rotation.

On Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, there’s no official “special seating section.” Some guests politely request certain rows to get their ideal thrill level, and once again, Cast Members will sometimes ask them to wait a bit longer to make it happen.

Even more low-key attractions like Frozen Ever After or Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure can have guests asking for the “front row” for better visibility. While these don’t always have a separate line, the Cast Members may still ask you to step aside for the next vehicle.
How to Handle It Without Losing Your Cool
If you really want those premium seats, the key is patience. Let the Cast Member know your preference before boarding begins, and be polite when you ask. Saying something simple like, “Would it be possible to wait for the front row?” goes a long way. Most of the time, they’ll be happy to accommodate if it doesn’t disrupt the flow too much.

Just know that this could mean adding another five to ten minutes — or more — to your overall wait time. If you’re visiting on a busy day, you’ll have to decide whether that picture-perfect seat is worth the delay.

Our advice? Prioritize it for the rides where the seat really matters — Soarin’ and Test Track — and don’t worry as much about it elsewhere. Sometimes, getting on faster is the better trade-off, especially when you’re trying to squeeze in that last-minute reservation or catch the fireworks in World Showcase.
So, Is It Worth It?
For some Disney adults, absolutely. If you’ve ridden Soarin’ dozens of times, you know how much better that perfect view can be. But for others, the difference may not justify the extra waiting around. It all comes down to your priorities — and your patience level after walking EPCOT all day.

As always, we’re here to help you be prepared for those unexpected Disney quirks before you even step into the park. In the meantime, for more Disney news and updates, make sure to stay tuned to AllEars.

Would you wait in a separate line just for the “best” seat, or would you rather get on faster and move on to your next snack stop? Tell us what you’d do down in the comments!

I don’t care where I have to sit or stand on a ride. I just want to enjoy myself. That’s the most important thing. A bad day at EPCOT beats a good day at work. By bad day I mean waiting a long time. There is no bad day at EPCOT!
