September 15th Is Going to Be a Game Changer for Magic Kingdom — Here’s Why

There are a lot of important dates floating around on a Disney Adult’s calendar, and if this one isn’t on it yet, you’ll want to circle it in red.

Destination D23 brought some big news, like the Carousel of Progress getting a new show scene with a Walt Disney animatronic and the original paint colors coming back to Cinderella Castle. With all the news, you might have skipped over this exciting update!

Starting September 15th, Magic Kingdom’s TRON Lightcycle / Run is getting an overlay for the new Tron: Ares movie. The original blue tones are changing to red.

The new movie comes out in theaters on October 10th and is the third film in the Tron series. The movie is being directed by Joachim Rønning, who worked on other Disney movies like Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, so we know we’re in for a real treat.

There will also be music from Nine Inch Nails, who helped with music from the movie. You can check out one of the tracks from the film called “As Alive as You Need Me to Be,” which sounds awesome. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross from Nine Inch Nails also worked with some of the music from the afterlife scenes in Pixar’s Soul.

This change begins on September 15th at the Magic Kingdom, and although we don’t have an end date, it’s intended to be a limited-time offer. The overlay is also coming to Shanghai Disneyland starting on September 16th. With new lights and music, it’s going to feel like a brand new experience!

We LOVE ride overlays like when the Jungle Cruise turns into the Jingle Cruise and Living with the Land turns into Living with the Land — Glimmering Greenhouse for the holidays.

We also can’t forget our special overlays during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. My favorite is riding Space Mountain for Halloween when there are no lights on. It takes the thrill to the next level!
