Change is constant at Disney World, and 2026 is already shaping up to be a big year of goodbyes.

A couple of long-standing attractions are officially set to close for good, and these aren’t just minor updates. We’re talking about major rides and restaurants that have been staples of the parks for decades. While it’s always sad to say farewell to classics, Disney is making room for exciting new experiences on the horizon. Let’s break down the closures you’ll need to know about before planning your next trip.

DINOSAUR – Closing February 2nd, 2026
Dinosaur fans, this one is going to sting. After nearly three decades at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, DINOSAUR will permanently close on February 2nd, 2026. This means the very last chance to ride will be February 1st, so if you love this blast-from-the-past thrill ride, you’ll want to make time before the doors shut for good.

DINOSAUR originally opened with Animal Kingdom in 1998 under the name Countdown to Extinction and quickly became known for its dark, bumpy ride through the Cretaceous period. Over the years it became a cult favorite thanks to its suspenseful story and surprisingly intense ride system.

But that’s part of what makes its closure so interesting — the track layout and ride system were originally cloned from Disneyland’s Indiana Jones Adventure. Now, Disney is closing the loop by transforming the ride into an all-new Indiana Jones attraction, debuting as part of the park’s brand-new Tropical Americas land in 2027.

Restaurantosaurus and DinoLand Closures – February 2nd, 2026
It isn’t just DINOSAUR that’s saying goodbye. Disney World has also officially announced that Restaurantosaurus will close permanently on February 2nd, 2026, with its last day of operations set for February 1st.

This closure is part of the larger DinoLand farewell, and it goes beyond just one restaurant. The Dino Institute Shop, Restaurantosaurus Lounge, and Restaurantosaurus itself will all close on that day as well. At this point, there’s still no official word on the future of Trilo-Bites, but it’s clear that most of DinoLand as we know it will be gone by early February.

For many visitors, Restaurantosaurus was a go-to quick service spot thanks to its casual menu and fun theming. While it wasn’t necessarily the most unique dining option at Animal Kingdom, its dinosaur digs and quirky decor made it a favorite for families. Losing it alongside DINOSAUR feels like the true end of an era for the land.

The closures are all part of the larger Tropical Americas transformation, which will bring in a new Encanto attraction and the Indiana Jones ride. So while it’s sad to see a whole section of the park close, guests won’t have to wait too long for a fresh lineup of experiences to take its place.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith – Closing in 2026
Hollywood Studios is also preparing for a major shake-up. After years of speculation and rumors, Disney confirmed that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will close permanently in 2026. But unlike DINOSAUR, this one won’t stay gone for long. Instead, the ride will reopen later in the year as Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets.

Yes, you read that right — the Muppets are moving in, and they’re bringing the full force of Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. This high-energy band has been a fan favorite since their debut in the 1970s, and now they’re taking over one of Disney’s most famous thrill rides. The reimagined attraction will send guests racing across Hollywood on a chaotic road trip to get the band to their biggest concert yet. Expect plenty of Muppet humor, zany details in the queue, and of course, some classic rock jams to blast through your speakers as you zoom through the dark.

The update will go beyond just the ride itself. The giant red guitar in the courtyard is getting a bold, psychedelic makeover inspired by the band’s colorful style.

Inside, the G-Force Records studio is being taken over by none other than the Muppets, who have “bought out” the recording label and put their own spin on things. Even the engineers behind the soundboard will be penguins.

While some longtime fans will miss the Aerosmith theming, it’s hard not to get excited about the fresh energy this overhaul brings. The Muppets are having a bit of a renaissance in the parks, and giving them a high-speed roller coaster feels like the perfect way to introduce them to a new generation of fans.
What These Closures Mean for Disney World
Two closures in one year might feel like a lot, but this is Disney’s way of keeping the parks evolving. DINOSAUR and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster have been around for decades, and while they’ve built up loyal fan bases, both attractions are due for a refresh. By the end of 2026, guests will be able to experience one of the most unique Muppet-themed attractions ever, while 2027 promises to deliver a massive new land at Animal Kingdom.

For now, the best thing you can do is plan ahead. If you have a trip coming up before February 2026, make sure you get in those last rides on DINOSAUR and soak up the atmosphere of DinoLand one last time. And if you’re a fan of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in its current form, ride it while you can — because once the Muppets take over, there’s no going back.

Disney is no stranger to change, and while goodbyes can be tough, history shows that the new additions often become fan favorites in their own right. Whether you’re into Indiana Jones adventures or chaotic Muppet antics, there’s a lot to look forward to in the next couple of years.
