If This Doesn't Make You Fear Roller Coasters, Nothing Will

Ride mishaps, closures, and technical issues happen in theme parks often, and we’ve even seen people evacuated from a ride, even in Disney World.

However, when that ride is a roller coaster, and passengers are stuck mid-air, the rescue is a little more involved. Well, according to People, that’s exactly what happened recently with a roller coaster in a Texas theme park.

On August 1st, 18 people were stuck on the Texas Tornado, a roller coaster at Wonderland Amusement Park, which is currently celebrating its 75th anniversary, in Amarillo, Texas. The ride stopped, resulting in the rescue of the 18 people who were riding it.

The Amarillo Fire Department responded to the scene and safely evacuated all passengers using an aerial ladder. The AFD also brought three engines and a ladder truck to the site. Although Wonderland Theme Park reported no injuries, the AFD reported that Amarillo Medical Services did evaluate one person. However there are no reports about whether that person was transported to a hospital or not.

After the incident, the roller coaster remains closed as the park investigates the cause of the malfunction so that repairs can be made. In a statement, the theme park said, “The Texas Tornado will remain closed while we conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause and complete any necessary repairs. The safety of our guests and team members is always our highest priority.”
