Disney World is going through some serious changes and we’re pretty darn excited about them!
The Animal Kingdom retheme of DinoLand, U.S.A. into the new Tropical Americas land is already in progress, and the Villains Land and Cars area rethemes at Magic Kingdom are in progress, too. While those changes might be a ways away, we spotted a new permit for something that’s coming much sooner.
We’re always on the hunt for the latest construction permits Disney has filed to get an idea of what projects might be on the horizon around the parks and more! We search for Notices of Commencement to find out what sort of work might be going on, and Disney has filed a new permit to install signage at McKim’s Mile House!
The Walt Disney Imagineering permit was filed on February 5th and lists Design Communications LTD as the contractor, who has worked on multiple Disney World projects before. The expiration date on the permit is one year from the filing date, but we won’t even make it that long since McKim’s Mile House is set to open this summer!
Back in June 2024, Disney closed the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade, an opening day attraction at Magic Kingdom, and announced that it would be replaced by a brand-new Disney Vacation Club lounge — McKim’s Mile House.
For those curious about the name, a mile house is “a roadhouse or rest stop that was established during the Gold Rush to mark a mile from an important destination.” Sam McKim was an artist who inspired many Disney films and theme park attractions with his drawings. He is best known as the creator of the Disneyland souvenir maps and is who the new lounge is named for.
Disney hasn’t shared an official opening date just yet, but as we get closer and closer to summer, that will hopefully change soon.
