I Was Today Years Old When I Noticed This on EPCOT’s Guardians of the Galaxy Ride

My absolute favorite ride in Disney World right now is Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind!

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

Trust me, I love the PeopleMover and Expedition Everest, as well as plenty of other rides, but Cosmic Rewind holds a special place in my heart. I still haven’t gotten all the songs (halfway there though!), but currently my favorite is “One Way or Another.” I try to ride it every time I end up in Disney World, but something happened on my last ride that I’d never experienced before!

Spoilers for the ride are incoming, so if you don’t want to know details, I would skip the remainder of this post!

Cosmic Rewind Pre-Show

At the beginning of the ride, the Guardians of the Galaxy are encouraging you as you head to travel through the jump point. Once you do, you line up backwards in your cars as you stare at a massive screen (one of many — I love it, but it’s part of the reason why anyone with motion sickness has a very hard time). Everything goes dark and you hear Gamora say, “I think we jumped back.” It’s right at that point that you typically hear the start of whatever song has been chosen for your ride as the lights flash and you shoot backwards.

However, on my last ride, we didn’t jump straight into the backwards launch. Instead, there was more dialogue from the Guardians, asking what Gamora means by “jumping back” and speculating what’s going on. At this point I knew that there was a delay of some kind happening, because I’d never heard the additional dialogue before!

Thankfully we weren’t delayed too long, around 10-15 seconds, but I was able to strike up a conversation with the nice girl (who was on her DCP — I know she likely will never read this, but I hope she has a great time!) next to me, and we were causally interrupted in the middle of our conversation by the ride starting, which again, at this point means it shot us backwards.

I’m really glad I got to hear the additional dialogue, because it gave me a behind the scenes look, in a way, about what went into the creation of the ride! I’m a sucker for all things behind the scenes, so I’m actually really hoping my ride evacuation “curse” continues and I get evacuated off of it someday!
