The Disney Skyliner is my personal favorite way to get around Disney World!
Yes, even after getting whipped around on it in the middle of a sudden storm, I really do love it. It’s unique to me, and different than any of the other forms of transportation, and I know a lot of you feel the same way. But did you know that there’s something a lot of Disney adults keep requesting on the Skyliner, and if you’re interested, you can do it, too?
There are actually two types of Skyliner cars — ones with wraps around them and ones without. The ones with wraps are all the ones you see with the adorable Disney characters on the outside! Sometimes you’ll have one with Mickey and Minnie, sometimes it’s characters from Frozen or Encanto — there are so many options.
The Skyliner cars without wraps are great for getting unobstructed views of what you’re flying over (you can see out of the wrapped cars too, but it’s not as clear), which is great for those who don’t mind heights and enjoy sightseeing, but if you’re not a fan of heights, you may not want to be able to see everything perfectly!
But did you know that there are times you can request a specific Skyliner car? This could be as simple as requesting a car with or without a wrap, or you could even get a little more specific and ask for a wrap with a specific character that your kiddo loves!
HOWEVER, there’s a big caveat here — it all depends on how crowded the Skyliner is and how many people there are around you. If there’s a line and things are a little hectic, it’s likely your request will not be able to be granted because Cast Members need to be more focused on getting everyone where they need to go safely and efficiently.
If you’re standing in a nearly empty line though, it’s worth politely asking the Cast Member! Most likely what they’ll have you do, if they’re able to accommodate your request, is to ask you to stand off to the side until your specific car comes around. Keep in mind though that this will add onto the amount of time it’s taking you to get to your next location, so if you’re trying to make a dining reservation or rope drop, this probably isn’t the best move.
As I said though, this is never guaranteed. It’s something that Cast Members can SOMETIMES do, but even if it seems empty, there could be things going on behind the scenes that prevent them from granting your request. If it’s not possible, say you understand and go into whatever car they direct you to. Remember, a Cast Member is never intentionally setting out to ruin your vacation — they’ll accommodate you if they can, but it’s NEVER okay to be rude to a Cast Member.
