Disney Fans Told Us the WORST Things About Disney World, and Honestly, They’re Not Wrong

Disney World is packed with amazing attractions, world-class entertainment, and so many opportunities to make unforgettable memories…but that doesn’t mean it’s perfect.

Magic Kingdom

We visit Disney World every day, so we’ve seen the resort’s highs and lows. While we love Disney World, we also acknowledge that it has plenty of flaws, and instead of burying our heads in the sand, we think we should bring these issues to light and go over how YOU can beat them!

We asked YOU — some of the biggest Disney fans on the planet — what you felt were the worst problems at Disney World. From broken rides to overstimulation, we heard a plethora of issues. Let’s jump into some of these issues and discuss ways you can overcome these obstacles to have the best Disney World vacation EVER!

Magic Kingdom

The first issue that many Disney fans have is an obvious choice — Genie+Disney’s skip-the-line service allows you access to most Lightning Lanes for a flat fee per person. This service is supposed to allow you to save a bunch of time while guaranteeing you the ability to ride your favorite rides, but it can be confusing and a waste of money if you purchase it too late during your park day.

We recommend prioritizing by picking your absolute must-dos before you ever step foot in Disney World. While we all want to do everything, that’s just not plausible. We suggest picking your top three attractions and going from there. “Get in the know before you go” and your expertise will save you a ton of time and confusion.

Genie+ and Lightning Lanes are about to turn into Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass beginning July 24th, 2024. But don’t worrywe’ve got you covered on all the changes and what you should expect!

The next issue many fans (including us) have come across is bad theme park food. Don’t get it twisted — Disney World has PLENTY of good eats, but quality isn’t consistent throughout the entirety of the resort.

Not the best pizza we’ve ever had

Magic Kingdom is probably the worst perpetrator out of the four parks, Disney Springs, and the Disney World hotels. Some quick-service locations just won’t live up to the standards of others, and certainly not most sit-down restaurants. Additionally, there are some snacks we could do without.

We can talk all day about the great food you can find all over Disney World (and we do!) but if you’re looking for some snacks we typically skip, check the link below!

Of course one of the WORST things you can experience during a Disney World vacation is bad weather! Central Florida is in a tropical climate, so while the weather can be quite nice, it can also get sticky, rainy, and extra hot.

Rainy day

Summers can be brutally hot with summer storms, the fall can still be hot with the threat of hurricane season with some cold evenings, the winter can be very some days, and the spring is allergy season.

Heavy rain in the parks

The worst part about the weather is that it can be unpredictable and shut down rides temporarily. The best thing to do is plan ahead by packing tons of Disney World essentials like fans and ponchos. And don’t worry — when outdoor rides have to close due to weather, they often reopen once it’s safe.

One of the worst things you can experience at Disney World (and anywhere really) is intense crowds and that’s definitely a sentiment most Disney fans can agree on. Disney World is one of the most visited places ON EARTH, so it makes sense that crowds can get pretty chaotic.

Magic Kingdom rope drop crowds

Higher crowd capacity means less walking room and longer wait times, which are no fun for anyone. Disney World doesn’t really have offseasons anymore and crowds can be tough to predict, but generally speaking, summer break, spring break, Thanksgiving week, Christmas time, and New Year’s Eve and Day draw consistent heavy crowds. You’ll also want to avoid days when new attractions, shows, and other new offerings open.

Ultimately, people want to visit Disney World, so there will likely be crowds during your visits. We provide planning tips year-round and that usually includes days you may want to avoid, so be sure to check back here at AllEars often!

Magic Kingdom Crowds

While this issue isn’t overly talked about, overstimulation is certainly a problem that plagues MANY guests. Shows, rides, and crowds can really overwhelm people, especially if you’re a Disney World newbie.

Trust us, even though we’re used to the parks, leaving after a fireworks show (along with everyone else) is an anxiety-inducing undertaking and it can be super easy to get overwhelmed, fast.

Solutions include finding a quiet place to reset (yes, those do exist at Disney World), riding something relaxing with a short wait like the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, wearing earplugs, and knowing when to step away to practice calming tactics.

Disney World offers a ton of great attractions…that will break down on occasion. Additionally, shows are susceptible to cancellation. Things don’t always go as planned at the parks and that’s just an unfortunate reality of the theme park experience.

Evacuating

If you’re on/in line for a ride or in a show that goes down, oftentimes there is a quick fix and you could simply be stuck in a pause. However, there are times when full evacuation is required, you’ll be escorted out, sometimes seeing some behind-the-scenes stuff on your way to the exit.

Sometimes guests can be compensated with free Lightning Lane passes, and other times there’s just nothing that really be done. It’s always a good idea to check the My Disney Experience app for up-to-date ride statuses and to talk with Guest Services if you have any questions.

Another problem with Disney World is that it’s not the kindest to first-timers. Disney World is…well…a lot. You have to plan A TON, navigate massive parks, know where to eat, know when to eat, make reservations for literally every minute of your day, adapt to adversity that WILL happen to you at some point during your trip, and so much more.

A Painfully Accurate Look at What Happens When a Disney EXPERT Travels With a Group of First-Timers

Finding Mickey Mouse is a must-do for every first-timer at Disney World

Disney World is the size of San Francisco, which is awesome until you remember that just means way more walking. That’s right, prepare to walk miles upon miles each day you visit the parks.

Walking in EPCOT

Disney World is its own city but often people are surprised just how much walking you’ll have to do. We’ve logged 13+ miles in ONE day ya’ll…this isn’t Disneyland where everything is right next to each other. Get ready to move and get ready to move a lot.

You’ll be walking A LOT

First and foremost, we can’t recommend breaking in a good pair of walking/running/tennis shoes before you visit Disney World enough.  Also, take advantage of free Disney World transportation — like the Disney Skyliner — as often as you can!

How to Get Around Disney World

EPCOT Skyliner Station

Finally, we’ve touched on this already, but not having enough time to do everything is certainly a major bummer for Disney World fans. The fact is simple: you can not do everything at Disney World in one visit. It’s not physically possible.

This show is a must-do for many people!

Disney World is constantly changing and adding new experiences and cramming everything into just a few days isn’t very feasible. If you try to do everything, you also run the risk of missing out on some things near the top of our to-do list.

Rise of the Resistance is a very popular ride, so it might be a priority

Speaking of a to-do list, prioritize, prioritize, prioritize! Know what you can’t miss, and make a strong effort to experience those things. That includes dining opportunities and shows in addition to rides. It’s up to you and your family to come up with the perfect itinerary, and while you won’t get everything done, you’ll minimize FOMO by experiencing things that drew you out to Disney World in the first place.
