Magic Kingdom is in for a hot summer in more ways than one.

This summer promises to be one of the busiest in Magic Kingdom history, as the highly-anticipated Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is set to open. The new attraction is sure to be a smash hit, and draw in huge crowds. However, there’s one problem that could sour the whole experience: The HEAT.
Heat and weather have always played a factor in Walt Disney World operations. In fact, part of the reason Walt selected the Central Florida location for his initial “Florida Project” was because of the area’s subtropical climate. To this day, it’s important to take the weather deeply into account when visiting the resort, especially during the hottest times of the year.

Speaking of hottest times of the year, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is currently scheduled to open on June 28th, and will in-turn see massive crowds and lines during July and August. According Florida State University’s Florida Climate Center, it is “common for the daily temperature range to be between 73° F and 95° F” in Florida during those months.” And that’s before bringing humidity and the heat index into account.

To put it bluntly, if you’re planning to try to ride Tiana’s Bayou Adventure this summer, you’re in a for a LONG, HOT wait. The queue likely wont help much either, as the attraction is maintaining the same queue as its predecessor Splash Mountain, which is mainly outside.

Judging by construction photos, the queue space has been largely unchanged, meaning that the long and winding outdoor section is mainly uncovered from the pounding Orlando sun. While there are trees in the queue, they’re arguably not enough to truly provide relief from the heat.

Of course, there are ways to mitigate the heat. These include:
- Wearing comfortable, light clothing.
- Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
- Wearing sunglasses, a cap, and SPF lotion to shield from the sun.
- Carry a small fan and cooling towel for relief while sitting in a long line.
Arguably most importantly, listen to your body. As tempting as it can be to try and “gut it out” to “make your money’s worth” from your Disney day, it’s not worth your health. Take breaks, and if you need to need to tap out on a long line, or even a whole park day, do so if it’s the best idea for you.

There’s no doubt that the opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will be the biggest thing to happen in Walt Disney World this year. However, if you’re planning a trip to the Magic Kingdom to experience it, be sure to prepare for the sure-to-be EXTREME heat.
