Disney World is always changing, evolving, and growing.
That’s been very evident over the past few years with the EPCOT transformation and the addition of the TRON ride in Magic Kingdom. But Magic Kingdom is also getting a new ride, in the form of an old one — Splash Mountain is getting a re-theme, and now we know when that will happen.
Back in 2020, Disney announced that Splash Mountain would be getting updated with a new story revolving around The Princess and the Frog. The company shared some concept art of what the new theme will look like, which shows Tiana and Naveen heading out in the bayou for a new adventure.
Disney hasn’t said much about when the re-theme might take place, and since the initial announcement several years ago, Splash Mountain remains open as is. However, that’s all changed! At the Essence Festival of Culture in New Orleans, Disney just announced that the new version of Splash Mountain — which will be called Tiana’s Bayou Adventure — will open sometime in late 2024 in both Disney World and Disneyland! Disney hasn’t announced yet when the ride will close to start the updates.
We’ll keep an eye on construction progress and get you more details when we have them.
In the meantime, if you’re planning a Disney World trip when Splash Mountain is closed and you’re craving a water ride, there’s always Kali River Rapids in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
For boat rides that are a little less extreme, check out Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, Liberty Square Riverboat, and it’s a small world in Magic Kingdom, Frozen Ever After, Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros, and Living with the Land in EPCOT, and Na’vi River Journey in Animal Kingdom.

What a waste of money. Perfect the way it is(except for the sinking logs)
This is tragic. What a waste. One of the busiest, most popular rides in the parks. So many other places in need of updates to aim these funds. Shame.
Please don’t rename our beloved SPLASH MOUNTAIN 😢😢😢
And Moana would have been much better
