Splash Mountain at Disneyland and Disney World is getting a The Princess and the Frog-themed makeover.
We recently heard more updates about when we can expect to see the re-theming begin, and now Disney has released some artwork that they’re using as inspiration for the changes!
We’ve seen some of the artistic inspiration already when Disney first released information about the re-theming, but now you can check out MORE of the art behind the updates. We first got a glimpse at this concept art for the ride, directly from Disney!
Also, Disney shared some original artwork painted by Sharika Mahdi, which was made to help inspire the Imagineers who are designing the attraction’s updates. The painting depicts a Mardi Gras party that will be at the end of the ride.
In the accompanying roundtable discussion, Disney noted that the updated ride will feature some new characters and that Tiana will be wearing pants! You can check out the full video below:
And in case you missed it, here’s the concept art that was released when the ride’s re-theme was originally announced!
In the new ride, guests will follow the adventures of Princess Tiana and Louis after the final kiss, including some original music. Even though construction will likely not take place for quite a while, we’re so excited for this new theme!

Does the Princess and the Frog warrant its own themed ride? The movie is like 12 years old and was only moderatly popular at the time of its release. Am I missing something? Oh yeah, nevermind.
I’m sure this will wind up on the list of individual attractions requiring further $. In reality they should be paying us to ride this sham. Can’t wait to see what is cancelled next!
splash mountain is my favorite ride. I’m going to miss the old theme but I’m really looking forward to seeing this new theme. I’m just wondering what the big splash down is going to be about and what’s going to be replacing all of the briar patch. Should be interesting to see.
I think this is going to be beautiful, I just wish Tiana was getting a restaurant instead. Disney is missing the boat, no pun intended.
