When Disney World reopened in 2020, it began conducting a “phased reopening” which means that not everything was available in the parks at once. Since then, experiences have slowly been returning to the Disney parks. Fireworks have returned, shows and musicals have returned, and traditional character meet-and-greets are returning soon as well!
Last month, Disney hit a major milestone in its phased reopening that most people probably didn’t even notice!
With the reopening of All-Star Sports Resort following refurbishment, this is the first time since Disney World reopened in 2020 that all of the resort hotels have been open.
It’s been a long process. Some of the Disney hotels did not reopen when the parks did, for example both Port Orleans French Quarter and Riverside did not reopen until over a year after Disney World did.
Disney began its phased reopening of the Disney World hotels with the Disney Vacation Club resorts and Fort Wilderness. After that big push to reopen the DVC villas on June 22nd, 2020, Disney slowly began opening more and more of the hotels over the next year and a half.
Disney has also taken this opportunity to renovate and refurbish many of their resorts, like All-Star Sports. All-Star Sports was supposed to reopen in December, but its reopening was delayed until March 31st, 2022. The Polynesian also got a renovation to a new Moana theme, the Contemporary now has Incredibles-themed rooms, and the Grand Floridian is in the process of getting rooms themed after Mary Poppins Returns.
