It’s been two months since Disney World rolled out their newest features in the My Disney Experience app — Disney Genie, Genie+, and Individual Attraction Selection.

Both Genie+ and Individual Attraction Selections offer guests the ability to “skip the line” at select attractions across all four parks, but instead of the service being free like FastPass+, it comes at an additional cost. We’ve been testing out both services since they originally launched to bring you our best tips and tricks and as the Disney Parks become more crowded around the holidays, we’re starting to see a different pattern emerge for standby lines at some of the most popular rides.
One of the concerns that many Disney fans had when Genie+ and Individual Attraction Selections were first announced was that standby lines would become much longer than they were when there was no ability to skip the lines. After all, this was a common problem with FastPass+ in the past.

When the services first launched in October (which is considered a slower time at Disney World when it comes to crowds), we didn’t notice much of a difference in standby lines at attractions. But, the trend has been a bit different for select rides as the parks get busier.

For example, at Magic Kingdom today, we stopped by Jungle Cruise around 2:30PM and the wait time was posted at 140 minutes (!!). While you can normally expect the standby line here to be longer than 30 minutes (especially since it receives a special overlay for the holidays), this was a much longer wait than we had seen before Genie+ rolled out.

And, it’s not just the line at Jungle Cruise that has been impacted by Genie+. The wait times at other popular attractions like Peter Pan’s Flight and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train have also increased significantly as more people opt to pay for Lightning Lane access.

Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we’ve been seeing the same thing too. While we’re no stranger to seeing long wait times at Flight of Passage, Kilimanjaro Safaris, and Na’vi River Journey during the busiest times of the year, Genie+ and Individual Attraction Selections seem to be causing there to be no break in the long wait times throughout the day.

For example, we noticed that Flight of Passage was listed as having a 75-minute wait around 6PM the other night and spoke with a Cast Member who shared that this has been the norm since they opened up the Lightning Lane.

So, if you’re planning on heading into Disney World during the busier times of the year and don’t plan to purchase Genie+ or Individual Attraction Selections, you’ll want to be prepared with a plan for how you’ll tackle the rides with longer wait times.
