From a barbershop inside of the NBA “bubble” to tons of NBA merchandise, we’ve been keeping an eye out for the latest basketball news ever since the NBA 2019-2020 season resumed at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Disney World.

Last night was Game 6 in the NBA finals, featuring the Los Angeles Lakers versus the Miami Heat.
After many free throws, 3-pointers, and more from both teams over various games…The Los Angeles Lakers emerged victorious as the winners of the 2019-2020 NBA Championship!

Immediately after Game 6 finished, Disney celebrated the Lakers’ win by lighting up Cinderella Castle in the team’s colors — purple and gold!

After 3 months and 205 games in total at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, the 2019-2020 NBA season is over! Disney noted that the lighting of the Castle was meant to commemorate the Lakers’ win and the return of the NBA season through the fantastic collaboration between the NBA and Disney World Cast Members.

This isn’t the first time Cinderella Castle has been lit up to celebrate a sports team’s win or final game. Earlier this year, Major League Soccer held the MLS is Back Tournament at ESPN Wide World of Sports and the Castle, and some surrounding areas, were lit up in the purple and green colors of the Orlando City Soccer Club and Portland Timbers to mark the last game of the tournament.

We’ll definitely miss seeing a blimp fly over Disney World and all of the other fun news that came out of the bubble, but we’re excited for what sports may come to Disney World in the future.
