Researching Epcot Hidden Mickeys

I’ve been working all of my spare time recently on the update for the Walt Disney World Hidden Mickeys book. Epcot has been my emphasis for the last few weeks. Of course, I take a short break here and there to enjoy the Epcot offerings. My friend and neighbor Jim and I sang along with The Turtles at the Flower and Garden Festival. Great fun! In the photo, Jim is on the right.

Now and then, Disney removes or changes Hidden Mickeys.

I discovered two at Epcot that had changed locations. One is the rock Mickey on the floor of the aquarium at The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilion. Julie Chappa informed me that this Mickey had moved. Indeed, Disney removed the original one and created another classic Mickey made of rocks that can be spotted in a different location halfway around the observation walkway on the upper level. The photo shows the new Mickey. To Disney’s credit, this Mickey concept has been preserved (for the present).

In addition, the brass plate classic Mickey in Morocco has changed doors! For years, it’s been on the outside green door of the Souk-Al-Magreb shop on the promenade. Recently, I saw it on the nearby red door of the shop. At least, Disney is not removing this Mickey image, just changing its location!

I was dismayed to find that the rock Mickey (in the photo below) on the bottom floor of the Manatee Tank of the Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilion had disappeared! It appears that the rocks have either been moved or covered by sand or dirt. Rock Mickey images such as this one (as well as other types of movable Mickey images) must be maintained by Disney personnel or they might be disturbed or lost. Let me know if it reappears!

  1. Epcots – Spirit of American Fife and Drum…there is a Mickey just above the base rim of the drum.

  2. We were just at Epcot on Monday (6/29/09) and I noticed a few Hidden Mickey’s. I’m not sure if these have ever been posted before, but I’m sending them just in case.

    1. In the “Living with the Land” boat tour in the greenhouse section back in the part where they grow the lettuces. There is light green lettuce growing and in the center is a classic Mickey in a purple-ish lettuce. (I have a picture of this one if you want me to send it?)

    2. Also in the “LWTL” tour in the fish farming area on the right side just after the alligators (I believe it was) there is a “tank” that has a Classic Mickey made of wire…kind of looks like a crab trap.

    3. On “Spaceship Earth” we found a couple more classic Mickeys! In the part where they are “introducing” the rider to the computers of the past, on the right side on the desk is a brown coffee cup that has a classic Mickey on it.

    4. Again on “SE”, in the scene where they show the first homemade computer in the garage, there is a car parked right outside the garage. On the driver’s side passenger window is a Classic Mickey sticker.

    5. The last one we saw was also on “SE” and was in the printing press scene on the left. If you look at the gears sideways, they are laid out with the big one on the “bottom” and the two smaller “ears” on the “top”.

Have a Mickey kind of day!
