Tips about Resorts and Transportation

Don't be afraid to use GoLynx, the public buses serving Orlando. Using the No. 50 gets you to Seaworld and I-Drive from the Ticket and Transportation Center and Disney Springs. The No. 111 is a direct bus to the Florida Mall. It's cheap, reliable and punctual, and way cheaper than shuttles or taxis. - Diane

For those of you who rent a car, you know that in the parking lots it is nearly impossible to tell them apart and find your own. They are all silver, mid-sized, etc. I always bring my old Mickey antenna toppper and put it on the car as soon as I pick it up. It makes it easier to find the car in those crowded lots. Just remember to get a new one for home. - Rick

Know the theme park closing schedule and schedule your non-hotel dinners before the buses make you route to Disney Springs to get back to your "home" hotel. We went from Boma (Animal Kingdom Lodge) to Disney Springs and back to All Star Music. That occurred starting at 10:45 p.m. We didn't make it to bed until just before 12:30 a.m. Fortunately we didn't have to be at Typhoon Lagoon until 10 a.m. the next day. - Rudy Costa EDITOR'S NOTE: Sometimes it is in your best interest to use the taxi service for late evening transportation from resort to resort. Wilderness Lodge - Select resorts now have a Resort Photo Session that can be booked up to 30 days in advance of your stay. I just called and spoke to Sheri at the Wilderness Lodge Photo Pass Desk (it's in the lobby by the Mercantile) and was quoted the following: 20 minute private photo session at your resort. 2 Packages available: $49.95 includes sitting fee and 7 - 5x7's $99.95 includes above PLUS all the photos they took on a CD/ROM and the rights to the photo's so you can print them up later. I was told that they take no less than 50 pictures, so if this is a special occassion it might just be worth it to get the $99.95 package! - Elizabeth Kozdron

Last year we stayed at the Dolphin and found out after booking that they didn't provide a free shuttle from Orlando International. We were able to rent a car through National for a really low rate that was less than four shuttle tickets. It was quick with online reservations and automatic check-in. The best part was I rented it for one day and you can return it at the hotel desk. We saved money, it was a fun drive, and probably quicker than waiting for a service. As a bonus you can stop for supplies on the way. - J. Perry

Coronado Springs - We want to let "winter" vacationers know that the outdoor pools are heated. We stayed at the Coronado Springs Resort in October, and thought it was too cool to swim at night. One night I happened to see how cold the water was and to my surprise it was warmer than it was during the day. No one mentioned that the outdoor pools are heated! So fellow vacationers, enjoy the uncrowded pools under the stars, in the warm, warm heated pools. - Krista Hook

This works brilliantly if you are going to Epcot or the Studios, staying at a Disney resort and have a car. Drive to the theme park early so you can park right at the front. Spend the morning in the park, then return to your resort for a swim/nap, using the resort bus service. Later, go back to the park on the bus and enjoy the evening entertainment (Fantasmic/IllumiNations). When everyone is trying to get on to the bus to go home, simply stroll to your car, which is easy to find as it is right at the front of the car park. Saves loads of time waiting for a bus. - Tasha Salisbury

Old Key West - We just enjoyed a wonderful week at Disney's Old Key West. However, we wondered why we spent so much time (greater than 45 minutes on a couple occasions!) waiting for buses to take us to the parks. After inquiring (finally) with the concierge, we were told that if the bus filled prior to our stop at Hospitality House, the bus driver would automatically skip this stop and a bus would only stop when vacant. Our tip -- walk the extra three minutes to the Peninsular Rd. bus stop and enjoy an empty bus each time! - Jen Tesoriero

POLYNESIAN RESORT - I just returned from a magical nine days in the World. It could have just as easily been a disaster. As soon as I checked into my room at the Polynesian, I went to charge my cell phone. Unfortunately I realized that I had forgotten to bring my charger. I thought I'd be incommunicado for the entire trip. Since my husband and I often take our kids in seperate directions, I was really worried about how we would manage our days. Thinking it was a slim chance, I inquired at the concierge desk. What a pleasant surprise when they brought out a bin of about 20-25 cell phone chargers for me to look through and find the right one. I was able to borrow it a few times during my trip so that I always had my phone ready and charged. - Vicky

If you want to play miniature golf at Winter Summerland, be advised that bus transportation is not running to Blizzard Beach due to its refurbishment (until October 25 in 2008). - Janine

EDITOR'S NOTE: The Coronado Springs-Epcot bus will stop at Blizzard Beach upon request even when the water park is down for refurbishing.

Here's a tip for those of you who have to use Disney transportation to get to a very early morning breakfast reservation in the parks or resorts. Take the bus from your resort heading to the theme park closest to where you are going. Take a Magic Kingdom bus for Chef Mickey's or Trail's End, Animal Kingdom for Boma's breakfast, etc. When you get on, be sure to tell the driver where your final destination is. Often times if the bus is not crowded and it is still prior to park opening times, they will take you directly to your destination after dropping off at the park they were headed to. This is not always the case but it happens more often than not. - Jack Marshall EDITOR'S NOTE: Boats from the Magic Kingdom to Fort Wilderness begin 1/2 hour before park opening. If you have early dining reservations at Trails End, you would need to walk to the Contemporary to catch the boat from there to Ft. Wilderness. These boats begin service at 6:45am daily.

Wilderness Lodge - Just returned from a week at WL and they now have a photopass counter in the hotel as well as sessions (for a fee) with photographers for pictures around the lodge - Lesley

I wasn't aware of this until our last visit a few weeks ago so I thought I would share with everyone. On our return Magical Express from resort to MCO we were put on a "Disney Cruise" bus. I didn't know that they used these buses for anything but transportation to the ships. As a result my daughter and I missed the first bus that left and only after questioning at bell services did we find out. - Joan
