Tips about Mousecellaneous and Strollers

I just wanted to share a tip I had for finding your stroller at night when you are in the parks. We have a navy blue stroller so at nighttime it is sometimes difficult to find it when you come off of a ride. Before we left on our most recent trip I bought a couple of battery operated glow-sticks. They come in different colors and have a breakaway lanyard. (I found them at Walmart.) When we parked our stroller I would turn on the light stick and when we came off of a ride or an attraction it was so easy to find our stroller. They are inexpensive and the best part is they are battery-operated so you can turn them on and off. My daughter also liked using them as magic wands that glowed in the dark. - Kelly

We have visited Disney two times in the last two years. Each time we rented a stroller for my daughter. Instead of opening and closing our map I always take chip clips with me and clip the map to the top of the stroller so while I am pushing her around I can look at the map. - Jennifer Parham

Ever wonder how much walking you do at the different parks, or on different days? So did we. A couple of years ago I bought an inexpensive pedometer basically for this purpose. You may want to consider this, as it gives you a little more to talk about after your vacation. We keep a daily log of the miles we walk and share it with our friends back home. Also you will either confirm what you already think about how far you walk, or you may be quite surprised that you walked as far as you did. I noticed in some of the online forums that many people will use their vacation as a reason or inspiration to get in shape. After all, you will need your "walkin' shoes" in the World! I, too, have begun walking in the mornings for exercise... inspired by our pending trip to that Magical Place! My tip is: there are many new sources for podcasts about Disney World. Listening to these podcasts really makes your walk go quickly! You don't need an iPod to listen; any MP3 player will do, or even burn them to disc for your old-fashioned CD Walkman! - Tom in Connecticut

While preparing for our trip and reading all the tips I could find, I came across the tip about getting the dish wipes for washing out the refillable cups or anything else you might need to wash. I thought that it was an excellent tip and set out to try to find them. I looked in every store in my area trying to find them, but could not. Finally I decided to try to make my own. I got some thick baby wipes and laid them flat on the kitchen counter. I squeezed on some dish soap and left them to dry until the next day. When they were dry, I put them in a zipper top bag. It worked perfectly and I was able to use things I already had around the house! - Angela B.

Save those receipts! Twice our receipts from food service locations at Walt Disney World included a 20 percent off total merchandise purchase (from store opening to 1 p.m.) coupon at the bottom, good at select locations, good through January 5. We just returned from Walt Disney World after a week's visit. Although we had rented strollers on previous trips we were asked this time if we wanted to rent for "multiple days" instead of a "single day rental." You save 10% per day and -- the real bonus -- you don't have to wait in the stroller rental line every day! You just show your ticket to the cast member who actually gives you the stroller. At the end of your last day, you turn in the receipt and you still get the $1 refund for each day, without the hassle of returning your stroller each night. Wonderful! We also used the new preschool brochure for the Magic Kingdom. It has a few items for each area of the park. It was nice to have, especially for someone who doesn't want to do the research on what rides are appropriate for young children. It would be nice if they were displayed with all of the maps of the park. We found ours at the stroller rental. - Lori

Another opinion regarding the tip about covering the strollers to protect against rain: stroller covers cost $7-$9 at most stores and can also be used safely with the child in the stroller, as it has a mesh for air to circulate. More (or at least equally) important, it's made of a stiffer plastic, which truly keeps the rain off the stroller. Ours was used during the rains before Hurricane Jeanne and the stroller stayed perfectly dry. We saw others with the rain ponchos covering the strollers. They would blow off, or the heavy rain would weigh them down and the accumulated water would drain in through the head opening. The humid air makes drying take a long time, even using a hairdryer (although that is the best way to get them dry before morning). If it's of importance to have a dry stroller (or a dry child in your stroller), an "authentic" stroller cover is definitely the way to go, and worth the money you pay for it. - Rhoda Smith

Velcro makes a 3/4-inch x 10-foot roll with the hooks on one side and the loops on the other so it sticks to itself. I bought mine in Walmart but I've also seen it in Home Depot. I cut it off in one-foot lengths to attach a mug or folded windbreaker to my belt loop. It has a hundred uses, and rolls up to fit in a pocket or backpack. - Brian Phillips

We rented a stroller while we were in Disney World, and I brought a loud yellow plastic bag and tied it to the stroller handle. That way I could spot my stroller in the stroller parking lot. It was inexpensive and practical because if it got lost then it was OK. If it got wet, it was also OK because it was plastic. - Jho Tan

All Resorts - We always buy the refillable mugs at our resorts, the only problem is how to carry all the mugs you just filled to the park each day. Well, you need to buy the plastic "S" hooks that go onto the baby style gyms. They work great and secure the mug perfectly. You can get them at your local "dollar store." They also work great attaching packages and many, MANY other things to your stroller. - Rene Hogan

If you didn't follow the excellent advice on covering your stroller with a plastic tarp and you encounter one of Florida's sudden storms, use your blow dryer for a quick dry back at your room. (One of Disney's famous ponchos makes a great stroller guard, too!) - D. Briante

Regarding the tip to keep your stroller dry -- Last visit to the world we used a shower curtain liner and two big binder clips to secure it. This worked really well with a double stroller. - Michelle Hammann

I just returned from an eight day visit to Disney World with two 3-year-olds. We have discovered a very helpful accessory for a stroller -- a car organizer that normally hangs on the back of the front seat. These organizers can be hung very easily on the back of the stroller giving a great deal of storage space. The soft, canvas types can be easily folded into the stroller when closing the stroller up. We had plenty of room for rain ponchos, water bottles, snacks and other goodies. The car organizers can be purchased rather inexpensively at Walmart or Target. - Patty M.

Hang on to your hat! My husband wears a baseball cap to prevent sunburn. He was astounded to have it fly off his head on the Tower of Terror. He was very relieved he caught it. What he didn't realize was that our brand new annual passes had been in his front shirt pocket. They, too, had levitated. Fortunately, the Cast Member saw them and called our names. WHEW! - TJ
