The NEW Reason You’ll Want to Rent a Car for Your Disney World Trip

On the fence about whether to rent a car for your next Disney World vacation? We’ve got one more reason that might push you to the “yes” column for that debate!

There are several ways to get around Disney World property if you don’t have a car, including buses, boats, the Monorail, and the Skyliner. But, as much as we love that Disney offers so many free forms of transportation, there are some visits when we’d rather rent a car to really get the most out of our plans. And soon, we’ll have another reason why a Disney World car rental will be EXTRA tempting!

Even though renting a car for your Disney World vacation means an extra cost upfront, there are some compelling arguments why it might make the most sense for your vacation. For one, it will probably save you time, since relying on Disney World transportation involves a fair amount of waiting. Whether it’s waiting for the next bus, monorail, or boat to arrive, or standing in a long line with the crowds at the start or end of the day, it’s a rare occasion when we can walk right up to our transportation of choice and immediately hop on with no wait. Time is money in Disney World, and those minutes spent waiting around can add up FAST. That alone could push you towards renting a car so you can head right from point A to point B with minimal lines (except any traffic, of course) to contend with.

Also, Disney’s free transportation isn’t always the most comfortable, especially if you’re packed in at a busy time of day. By renting a car, you’ll have more comfortable seating, your own personal space, and a more peaceful commute around the resort.

Plus, you’ll have the flexibility to adjust your plans however you need, whether that’s a quick trip to the grocery store, access to a fast ride in case of an emergency, or exploring the other sites around the Orlando area. In fact, that’s where the new reason you may want to rent a car comes into play!

If you plan to spend some time exploring the other things Orlando has to offer, it may be easier to rent a car so you’ve got the flexibility to travel where you want without waiting for a taxi or ride share. It could even save you money in the long run, depending on where you plan to go, how often you plan to take a car, and whether there’s surge pricing at the times you’re traveling. There are TONS of things to do in the area that could tempt you away from Disney World property, from other theme parks to incredible restaurants to unique activities. And soon, there will be another HUGE destination-worthy spot to consider!

Salmon Croquettas at Four Flamingos

Last year, we were devastated when the iconic dueling piano bar Jellyrolls closed its location at Disney’s BoardWalk after nearly 30 years. Jellyrolls was a popular spot for guests to unwind after a day at the parks while enjoying live music and a nightcap. We have lots of great memories there ourselves, and we were sad to see it go.

But before you start mourning the loss of Jellyrolls all over again, we’ve got great news — it was recently reported that Jellyrolls is building out a commercial space in Lake Buena Vista, less than 10 minutes from its former location! P.S. The new location will feature free parking, another win for guests who plan to drive!

Construction is underway now, and a spokesperson for the company has confirmed that many familiar favorites at Jellyrolls will remain the same, including its specialty cocktails and signature popcorn. As with the original location, the new club will be restricted to ages 21 and older, and the song list “will still forgo overly sexual or violent lyrics.”

The new Jellyrolls location is currently planning a grand opening for either late summer or early fall. If you were one of the many loyal Jellyrolls fans and you’re already dreaming about the many days you’ll cap off with a trip to the new spot, you might want to have a car handy on your next trip!
