The Crowds Are ROCKIN’ for the Closure of This Popular Disney World Ride

Well, as much as we can’t believe it, the day has finally come. Today, in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, an iconic ride closes before it changes forever!

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster currently stars Aerosmith, but after today, the current version of the ride will close to be rethemed into Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. We’ll be in the park all day today to bring you the latest updates, as it’s expected to be pretty intense, especially as we approach the final ride of the night!

When we walked into the park, it was already a rough morning, as Slinky Dog Dash, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and Rise of the Resistance were all closed at rope drop — YIKES! The line of people to get into Sunset Boulevard was LONG, but that was to be expected — especially since some people were rope dropping Tower of Terror instead.

Rope drop!

Once 9 AM hit and we were walking down Sunset Boulevard with the massive crowd, we could see that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster was already extending outside its normal queue.

Now that’s a long line!

In fact, something very interesting happened — while we were in line, we actually went BACKSTAGE between Tower of Terror and Villains: Unfairly Ever After! We asked multiple times if we were able to take photos and record, as you’re usually not allowed to backstage, but we were given the all clear a few different times.

We’re backstage!

This is a view of the parks many people don’t get, and often, it’s only when you get evacuated off of a ride, or an attraction has a much longer wait than normal (such as on a day like today).

This is a rare sight!

If you’re heading into the park today to experience this attraction, we recommend getting your cameras ready, because this may not be a sight you’ll see again. At least, until the ride reopens and lines are just as long! At 10 AM, the ride was sitting at a 90 minute wait, but we’re expecting to see it go up as it gets later in the day.

Look for this “End of the Line” placard!

We headed back to the ride later in the night and found that the lines were still going strong!

We were able to be there for the final few rides of the night, and even caught the Cast Members closing the gate on this area — which will eventually reopen for THE MUPPETS!

The ride is now closed

While we’re sad to say goodbye to this version of the ride, we can’t wait to check out Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets!
