A Disney World Transportation Expansion That Might Be Coming Soon

Walt Disney World just filed permits to expand Magic Kingdom’s ferryboat queue! The ferryboat sails across the Seven Seas Lagoon and connects Magic Kingdom to the Transportation and Ticket Center. Ferryboat constructions were filed with the South Florida Water Management District earlier this week.

While the monorail is the most popular route, the ferryboat can become very crowded when the monorail gets busy or shuts down entirely. We’re so excited for this expansion to make our next Magic Kingdom day so much easier!

The construction permits filed will expand the ferryboat queue at Magic Kingdom. It will create a more formal line in the area that loops you around the dock with a much larger capacity than the current line.

The new expansion area looks like it will improve guest flow in queues at Magic Kingdom. They’re also adding a floodplain compensation area south of the Magic Kingdom bus stop to protect the shoreline from erosion and flooding.

The Ferry at Magic Kingdom

Ferryboat construction on the Seven Seas Lagoon is very rare. The most recent construction was in 2021, when Disney added a second-level loading dock at Magic Kingdom and the Transportation and Ticket Center. Prior to 2021, the most recent addition was adding a second dock at both locations in 2014.
