PHOTOS: Disney World Reveals NEW Park Map After Permanent Closure of DinoLand

Yesterday was a sad day for DinoLand U.S.A. fans, as it was the last day to experience the land before its permanent closure, but today may be even MORE heartbreaking for some, because as of today, the land is officially closed.

New Animal Kingdom map

When a big change like that happens in any Disney park, Disney has to work hard to get a new guidemap out in the park the next morning, so guests visiting for the first time are getting updated information and not heading to lands and attractions that are actually closed. We headed into Disney’s Animal Kingdom first thing this morning and, sure enough, we spotted a new park map waiting for us!

These park maps were available right at the front of the park, after you walk in past the tap stations, but you can also find them elsewhere throughout the park as well. We opened it up to the map first, and sure enough, any mention of DinoLand U.S.A. is now gone. Instead, the map shows the area as all green and says “Future Home of Tropical Americas.”

No more DinoLand!

When you look to the detailed section of the map, DinoLand is nowhere to be seen either. Since the Tropical Americas land isn’t ready yet either, there’s also no mention of what will be coming to the land. The last thing Disney wants is for guests to be confused and think those attractions are available NOW, when it’s really just saying what’s coming soon. The sections listed now are Oasis, Discovery Island, Pandora, Africa, Asia, Theater in the Wild, and the Legend.

The information side

Again, this is nothing unusual. In fact, it would actually be MORE strange for us to see Disney not switch out the maps, because, again, that would cause LOTS of confusion with guests. If you’ve got an old Animal Kingdom map at home that still has DinoLand, you may want to hold onto it as a keepsake!

More of the map

During the land’s final day yesterday, we saw the wait time for DINOSAUR get up to 250 minutes towards the middle of the day, and fans of the land really came out in droves to say goodbye. We even got to see a GIANT group of Dr. Seekers take a big photo in front of the ride! While the final day had a note of sadness along with the nostalgia, mostly everyone seemed to be at peace with the fact that the land was going extinct.

Look at all those Dr. Seekers!
