REVIEW: Did We Finally Find a Solid Quick Service Breakfast at Animal Kingdom?!

If you are preparing for a full day of fun in the Disney World theme parks, you will want to make sure your family is fueled and ready to go. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day after all! While you might decide to grab breakfast at your hotel before heading to the parks, there are also lots of delicious options waiting for you outside the hotel!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Here at AllEars, we know all the ins and outs of Disney restaurants — including where you should definitely eat, and where you should skip. We recently stopped by Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes in Disney’s Animal Kingdom for breakfast and are bringing you our FULL review! Is this a good choice to fuel up for the day? We are about to find out!

Background

Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes is a quick-service restaurant located right next to the table-service Yak & Yeti Restaurant. Both of these restaurants are owned by Landry’s, Inc., and you can find them in the Asia area of Animal Kingdom. We are huge fans of Yak & Yeti, and we also love stopping by the Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes for a yummy, quick lunch or dinner. Some of our favorites for lunch or dinner include the Honey Sesame Chicken, Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich, Chicken Fried Rice, and Mini Mango Pie.

Yak and Yet Local Food Cafes

But, Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes also serves up breakfast! The breakfast menu is a bit more limited: four entree options, three side options, and two kids’ meal options.

Here’s what you need to know about dining at this restaurant.

Atmosphere

Yak & Yeti Local Food Cafes is a quick-service restaurant. You will order at one of the registers and then pick up your food from the window after you place your order.

Seating

There are lots of tables located right next to the ordering area. All the seating is outdoors, but some tables are covered. So you might be able to get some protection from rain, but you won’t be able to enjoy air conditioning. But we love that there are lots of tables, and we usually don’t have trouble finding somewhere to sit.

Plenty of places to sit

In the seating area, you will also find condiment and utensil stations.

Condiments and utensils

But enough about that, what are we eating?!

Food & Drinks

We grabbed the Breakfast Bowl with Bacon for $13.99. You have a choice between sausage and bacon as your meat. The bowl also contains scrambled eggs, cheddar, breakfast potatoes, peppers, and onions.

Breakfast bowl with bacon

The potatoes had a great crispiness and were fluffy on the inside, but there was no real seasoning to them, though. The scrambled eggs reminded us of the eggs you get at a free hotel breakfast. They were very spongy and moist. Not our favorite type of scrambled eggs, but it depends on your preference. The bacon was crispy and had a bit of a smoky flavor. There was enough that you could get a bit of meat in each bite. The peppers and onions were super tender, but again, had no real seasoning to them. There weren’t a bunch of peppers, and we would have liked more, but it depends on your opinion towards veggies. The green onions added a great bit of freshness. The cheddar cheese is your classic cheddar cheese. Our only complaint is that the cheese never really melted, and we would have much preferred it to be melted. The bowl was definitely under-seasoned, so we would recommend grabbing some sauces or salt and pepper from the condiment cart. There is hot sauce, ketchup, salt, and pepper, which definitely help this taste better! You can also go more unique and do duck sauce, hot sauce, or soy sauce if you want.

A filling breakfast

We also snagged a couple of sides. Starting with the Yogurt Parfait for $9.99. It is made with low-fat yogurt and strawberry compote, served with granola.

Yogurt parfait with granola

You get a lot of yogurt with this! It is definitely more expensive ($10), so we are glad you get a lot. There is a layer of strawberry compote on the bottom and larger chunks of strawberry in it, and it is all in a thick, sweet syrup. The compote is definitely sweet, but not super sweet. It’s very possible they only added a bit of sugar when making it, and it is just the sweetness from the strawberries. But the strawberries are tender, and the compote adds a good sweetness and freshness. The yogurt is creamy — it is a vanilla yogurt, so it also has a bit of sweetness to it. You get a small container of granola, and we feel like they should serve it with a bit more, as we like a more granola-to-yogurt ratio, but a lot has to do with preference. The granola is coated in a sweet glaze, and there are raisins in it. The raisins are a bit hard, and the glaze on the granola makes it a bit sticky as you are eating it. It kind of sticks in your teeth. It does add a good crunch to the parfait, but we just wish there was a bit more. Definitely a great lighter meal option!

Something lighter

We also tried the Hash Brown Bites for $5.99.

Hash brown bites

These were much larger than we expected. They are as big as the palm of your hand, and unless you have a huge bite, each one is gonna take you multiple bites to eat. They were nice and crispy, even after sitting, and the inside was moist and tender. They cooled off pretty quickly, so we’d recommend eating these as soon as you get them!

Who doesn’t love a potato?!

We definitely think this is a solid breakfast option in Animal Kingdom.

Magic or Tragic?

This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…

  • You want to try one of my favorite Disney desserts EVER. If you haven’t tried the Mini Mango Pie here, you haven’t truly lived.
  • You need a quick bite for breakfast or between attractions. This is located just a short walk from Expedition Everest and Kali River Rapids. If you have 10 minutes before your next Lightning Lane and need a quick and convenient snack, you know where to go!
  • You want Asian cuisine, but don’t have the time for a Table Service meal.
Yak & Yeti also has a Table Service restaurant; however, you’ll find many of the same flavors as you would inside.

You should skip this Disney World spot if…

  • No A/C is a dealbreaker. Unfortunately, there’s only outdoor seating here, but most of it is shaded. If you’re looking for an indoor meal, you may want to check the Walk-Up Waitlist at Table Service restaurants in the park.
  • You want the best Quick Service food in the park. This spot gets the job done, but it’s not the best food you can get in Animal Kingdom. We’d recommend Satu’li Canteen, as they also sell lighter entrees like bowls and salads.
  • You have picky eaters. This location has a few things that might please a crowd, but for the most part, the options here probably aren’t for everyone.

Menus: Lunch/Dinner, Breakfast
Services: Quick Service

If you’re looking for a quick breakfast in Animal Kingdom, Yak and Yeti is definitely a good option! Breakfast options can be hard to find around this park, so it’s nice to know there’s a reliable spot with both filling and healthier options on the menu.
