WARNING: Seeing These Shocking Disney World Crowds May Cause You To Book a Trip

When you head to Disney World, you’re probably expecting to see crowds, but if you can visit at a time of year when you’re not shoulder to shoulder with hundreds of your closest strangers, that’s probably what you prefer.

Magic Kingdom

We’re in Disney World every single day, and that means we’ve seen the wildly crowded days during the summer and on holidays, and we’re also in the parks on the days that really surprise us. We’ve known for years now that fall is one of the best times to visit Disney World for many reasons, but we have to be honest — the crowds have really been surprising us lately and each of the four parks!

Fall is one of our favorite seasons in Disney World. You’ve got cooler temperatures (we haven’t gotten there just yet, but it’s coming, we promise!), special seasonal treats that come out to celebrate the spooky season, and, of course, the lower crowds since many kids are back in school.

Spooky season is here!

Heading to Disney World in the fall is easier said than done though. As previously mentioned, kids are back in school, which means taking a vacation in September or October right after they’ve started their new school year isn’t ideal for many families. However, if you are able to book a trip during this season, the rewards will be reaped relatively quickly.

Magic Kingdom

We were shocked when we walked into Magic Kingdom for rope drop the other day and spotted way lower crowds than we expected! We got in line to rope drop Space Mountain, expecting it to be at least a 10-15 minute wait, and our jaws were on the ground when we were boarding the attraction in just about five minutes.

Space Mountain

After hopping off Space Mountain, we headed over to Pirates of the Caribbean and had a very similar experience. When we hopped off that ride, we took a look at our My Disney Experience App and saw that the wait time for Tiana‘s Bayou Adventure was only 10 minutes, and this was a solid half hour after the park had opened. Now, we often say that the first two hours of a park day are vital for riding some of your favorite attractions with the lowest waits you may see all day, but a 10-minute wait for one of the most popular rides in the park, a whole half hour after rope drop, was pleasantly surprising.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Magic Kingdom isn’t the only park experiencing lower crowds; we’ve also noticed a similar trend at the other three parks. It is important to remember, though, that attractions can always have issues throughout the day, which may cause wait times to increase dramatically.

If you were hoping to ride Rise of the Resistance, but find that it’s closed for two hours due to a mechanical issue, the moment that it opens again, crowds are going to be rushing towards that ride. We’ve got plenty of tips here on our blog and YouTube channel about how to manage the crowds, but still ride all your favorite attractions most efficiently, so check those out if you’re visiting soon and are concerned about wait times!

Rise of the Resistance

So, what does all this mean? Are crowds in Disney World lower than what we saw last year? Well, it’s a little hard to tell, but we’d say that these crowds are likely much better than the ones you’ll see heading into October when people arrive to celebrate Halloween closer to the holiday, as well as in November and December for the holiday season. And they’re infinitely more manageable than what we just experienced this past summer, which is what we see pretty much every year in the parks.

All in all, if you’re able to book a trip during the fall season, especially if you or your family is more sensitive to larger crowds/having lower crowds would make your trip more enjoyableBooking your next trip for September is a great way to go. We’d go as far as to say that early October is a pretty great time too, but later on, as you get into the month, the closer you’ll get to those Halloween-time crowds.
