CONFIRMED: Spaceship Earth Is CLOSING in EPCOT This Month

It’s not uncommon for rides to close from time to time in Disney World.

EPCOT

Currently we’re in the middle of a year-long closure for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is up next on the docket for a refurbishment. Test Track just reopened in EPCOT after being closed for months. But now, another EPCOT ride is about to close temporarily!

In case you’ve been out of the loop recently, we’re here to remind you that Spaceship Earth is closing temporarily for refurbishment starting on August 25th. Looks like we’ll have to put a hold on thanking the Phoenicians!

The slow-moving dark ride will only be closing for a little while — it’s scheduled to reopen later this year, though Disney hasn’t announced a specific date yet. Disney has emphasized that this will only be a temporary closure of the ride.

This means that it’s likely not a major refurbishment. Even though Disney announced a possible Spaceship Earth overhaul pre-pandemic, they would need much more time than just a few weeks or months to complete that change. And in fact, Disney hasn’t said anything about a possible overhaul in years.

Disney World attractions often get routine refurbishments to keep them running in top condition — think how many people they see each day! Spaceship Earth is over 40 years old, so it definitely needs a little TLC every now and then.

We’ll make sure to keep you in the loop if Disney announces any more details about the refurbishment. And of course, we’ll let you know when a reopening date is revealed.
