NEWS: Popular Magic Kingdom Ride Fails To Reopen as Planned

It is SO hard to keep up with all the closures in Magic Kingdom because a LOT is happening in that park right now.

We recently saw Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island close FOREVER to make way for a Cars expansion. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is still closed while it gets some updates. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will close soon for updates. In Fantasyland, Under The Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid recently closed for a refurbishment and was set to reopen today…except it didn’t.

Under The Sea — Journey of the Little Mermaid closed on July 21st and was initially set to reopen today, July 26th. However, when we visited Magic Kingdom this morning, we noticed the ride was still closed. A Cast Member was on site explaining that the ride is still closed to visitors.

What’s most interesting is that if you visit the Disney World website, it’s showing hours for the ride today. The ride is also showing hours for tomorrow and following days. However, the ride is still showing as “temporarily closed” on the My Disney Experience app.

We did speak to a Cast Member who said that they were hopeful the ride would open later today, but we still haven’t seen it reopen yet, so we’ll just have to wait and see. She did tell us that Disney’s intention was to still have it open day at some point before Magic Kingdom closes at 11 PM. So if you’re looking to hop on the ride, you’ll want to keep checking the My Disney Experience app for updates.
