UPDATE on Permit Filed for New 'Cars' Area in Magic Kingdom

We have a new update about the permit that was filed by Disney for construction in Magic Kingdom!

The permit was initially filed in August, but the South Florida Water Management District needed additional information. Disney has not yet provided the information but requested an extension at the beginning of December.

The South Florida Water Management District has agreed to give Disney an extension for submitting additional information about the permit filed for construction on the Cars area in Magic Kingdom.

Back in August, Disney filed a permit for the construction of a stormwater management master treatment facility just east of Magic Kingdom. This facility will likely be used for the stormwater drained from the Frontierland area. After the permit was filed, the South Florida Water Management District requested additional information about the permit from Disney World.

Disney requested a 60-day extension for submitting the additional paperwork at the beginning of December. On December 9th, the South Florida Water Management District agreed to give Disney until January 9th, 2025, to file the additional information. This means that Disney now has 30 days to provide the necessary information for the permit.

When Disney first announced the Cars project at the 2024 D23 Expo, they announced that construction would begin on this area in 2025. It is unclear if the request for an extension will delay the project at all, but we will be keeping a close eye on the progress and will let you know about any updates!

The new Cars area coming to Magic Kingdom will feature two new attractions! One of the attractions will be a racer-style attraction, and the second attraction will be a more family-friendly ride that will accommodate younger racers. These attractions will be replacing Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America.
