There’s a reason people line up bright and early for a ride on the Jungle Cruise — this ride is a DELIGHT! For a good long while, this attraction was closed for refurbishment. But what was happening back there during the closure? Let’s find out!

The Jungle Cruise closed in Magic Kingdom on August 26th for an extended refurbishment. We seriously missed this quirky little ride, but good news! It’s back up and running. The ride reopened on October 16th.

Now that the ride is open again, you might be wondering, “What changed?” Well, thanks to a special look inside, the Walt Disney Imagineering team gave us a behind-the-scenes peek at the construction!

As you may know, Disney Imagineers are the best of the best. They strive to make things look as realistic as possible, which means that every once in a while, it’s time for some touch-ups.

Imagineers went to town on the rockwork throughout the attraction during the closure. The colors were updated, the textures were improved, and the final product was pretty impressive! Coulda fooled us with that fake rock.

We will never get tired of listening to Disney Imagineers tell us their secrets. It’s so fun to see what they’re up to behind those construction walls. Speaking of construction, be prepared for some BIG closures across Magic Kingdom. Disney is preparing to totally transform the park with a new Cars Land AND a brand-new Villains land.

  1. Unfortunately I couldn’t see any difference in the rocks. But what I did notice was a bit distressing. First, the 2nd African elephant (used to be called the mother-in-law of the first elephant) was no longer there- just an empty space. Second, the explores chased up a tree by the rhino were NOT moving! After a lengthy shutdown I was surprised that nothing replaced the elephant and that another feature wasn’t functioning properly.
