We Love the NEW Moana Attraction at EPCOT – But There’s a PROBLEM

EPCOT’s newest attraction is coming soon, and we got to preview it before the grand opening! Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana is a fun, playful walkthrough attraction filled with water effects, splash pads, dancing water, hidden details, and more.

Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana

We had a blast making our way through the attraction, but there was one part of the experience that didn’t quite behave the way it was intended to perform. Water — it has bad days, just like us!

First, we have to start with the positives because there’s a lot to love about this new addition to EPCOT. We loved all the interactive elements. You can make music with water “strings,” walk through a curtain of water that parts as you pass through, and even summon the full force of the ocean with the help of others. It’s good, clean (but maybe a little WET) fun!

How FUN!

Plus, all that lush greenery is stunning! What can we say? We’re suckers for immersive theming. Oh, and it’s nice to have a bit more shade in EPCOT. (Though, if we’re being honest, we could have used even MORE shade coverage.)

Stream

Plus, this attraction has so many special details and Easter eggs. If you look closely, you’ll find nods to Moana all over the place.

There are so many little details!

However, we did face one small issue during the Cast Member preview. See that sign? Let’s take a closer look.

Spring

In the Spring section of the attraction, there is a spot where guests can control the water with their hands. But during our visit, this feature was unavailable. The sign read, “Temporarily Closed. This water is not feeling playful right now.”

Temporarily CLOSED

As you can see, the water wasn’t in the mood to move. After a long day in Disney World, we get it.

The water was standing still!

To be fair, Journey of Water is still sort of in test mode right now, as the attraction is only open to Cast Members (and their guests) for previews. Maybe by the time the attraction opens to the public, all the little kinks will work themselves out!

Fingers crossed it starts working soon!

We’ve heard that various parts of the attraction have been temporarily closed during previews (the Springs water feature worked during earlier previews), so we’re hoping that these closures don’t become a recurring issue.

Let’s hope everything works out!

On the whole, though, Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana is a creative little section of the park that gives people a new place to cool off and escape the hustle and bustle of other parts of EPCOT.

Yeah, this is beautiful!

In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.

Wait. Is EPCOT’s NEW Bathroom the BEST One in All of Disney World?!

  1. Concerning that Disney has already made up special signs to anticipate problems with elements in an attraction not even open yet.
