EVERYTHING You Need To Know About TRON Lightcycle / Run Lockers in Disney World

Have you ever used the bag trick on a Disney ride?

If you don’t know what that is, it’s when you place your bag in between your feet on a fast ride to keep your belongings from flying out all over the place. While this may work for more traditional attractions, TRON Lightcycle / Run is of a different breed.

The new Magic Kingdom ride has a different style of seating than what most park-goers are used to — instead of a traditional rollercoaster seat, TRON is built with motorcycle-style ride vehicles. Great for immersion, not great for your stuff! There’s no place to put your bags and there is only a small compartment on the ride vehicle, so Disney announced they will be using a digitized locker system to keep riders and others safe.

Disney showed us already how the locker system works in a quick video. When you reach the locker portion of the queue, you will be directed to a specific locker number by a Cast Member. Your locker will be paired specifically to you, either through your MagicBand or ticket, so you and only you will be able to collect your items once the ride is over.

You will simply tap the icon on the outside to pair, then add your belongings inside before closing. You may want to use these lockers to secure more than just bulky items — you can also store any loose items that might take off once you enter the Grid. The Lightcycles themselves do have compartments for small items, but they are tiny and can probably only accommodate a wallet or pair of glasses.

To retrieve your items, you’ll use your MagicBand or park ticket to open the locker. Note — if you accidentally lock your MagicBand or park ticket in the locker, you will need to get a Cast Member to open it for you. So try to remember to keep your MagicBand or park ticket ON YOUR PERSON while you ride. However, they will have you describe what’s inside the locker to the Cast Member first.

We also found that not ALL of the lockers work. So if you scan into one and it doesn’t open, just try a different locker. Also, MagicMobile on  your phone through the My Disney Experience app does NOT work on the lockers, according to Cast Members.

So what happens if you forget your locker number AFTER the ride? Well, Disney has thought that through because there’s a separate place where you can scan your MagicBand or park ticket that will give you your locker number!

Forgot your locker number? No problem!

Finally, if you don’t have a MagicBand or physical park ticket, Cast Members can provide you with a card just for the lockers.

Using this system instead of making guests rent lockers will help you save a bit of money if you want to ride. Lockers can cost from $10 to $15 per day, which means you’d have to spend that money just to ride (and that could be on top of an Individual Lightning Lane fee!). They are also found near the entrance, so you would also have to trek there and back between riding TRON. Lastly, if you wanted to avoid paying the extra money and dealing with the hassle, you’d either have to make someone in your party miss out on riding with everyone else to watch your bags, or come into and leave the park with NOTHING, which is not possible for most. This is the first time Disney will be offering ride-specific lockers, and we are grateful they chose to!

  1. Does anyone happen to know the actual dimensions of the locker? My boyfriend’s park bag is a medium-ish bag and we’re wondering if it will fit!
