Many hurricanes develop and disappear out at sea without any of us being the wiser. But what happens when one of these storms makes landfall and heads right for Disney World?

Those are some ominous looking clouds

Don’t be afraid! Disney is extremely prepared for inclement weather, and they will be sure to take care of you. Nevertheless, it’s never a bad idea to do a little preparation of your own!

These are some of the items we like to keep on hand when we’re visiting the parks during hurricane season.

COOY Rain Ponchos

This is probably the most obvious one, but we had to include it anyways! Rain ponchos are a park bag must-have even during the rest of the year, but we especially make sure to have a couple when we know to expect some storms.

COOY Rain Ponchos

This listing comes with a pack of 10 disposable ponchos so you could easily have enough for the entire trip. These are one-size but have drawstrings at the cuffs and hood, making them customizable. They come in handy little pouches so you can just throw them in your bag and forget about them until you need them!

Socks

Sneakers and tennis shoes are a popular choice for Disney World because they typically offer the best support for your feet. Unfortunately, they are usually SUPER absorbent! The Disney parks have lots of uneven surfaces where puddles collect, and it’s easy to end up with a pair of soaked shoes and socks.

If you don’t want to switch to a waterproof pair like Crocs, we suggest packing an extra pair of socks in your park bag. If you are hit with the uncomfortable experience of stepping into a deep puddle, you’ll be prepared! Besides your spare socks, pack a resealable sandwich bag so you have a place to put your wet pair without them leaking into your park bag. Why not go with the trip theme and pack Disney socks?

Snacks

If a hurricane hits while you’re vacationing at Disney World you will be directed to shelter at your resort or hotel. During this time Disney WILL make sure you are fed, so don’t be concerned about that! It can be a good idea to have some non-perishable snacks on hand though.

Healthy Mixed Snack Box

This box has a huge assortment of different kinds of bars that will keep you sated between meals. These are also great for any Disney trip; we suggest bringing a couple into the parks, especially if you’re on a budget and don’t want to spend extra cash on in-park snacks!

Entertainment

Another thing that Disney does when guests are sheltering in place is make sure you are entertained! The “Ride Out Team” are Cast Members whose job is to ensure you and your family still have a good time, even when you’re stuck at your resort. From games to movie nights, you will still have options to enjoy Disney.

We do recommend bringing some entertainment of your own for the times there might not be activities planned or you’d rather have some alone time away from the crowds. This can be something as simple as coloring books, or you can opt for a board game to spend time with the whole family! You could pick up the Haunted Mansion — Call of the Spirits board game on Amazon, which features characters from the classic ride. This game is for 2-6 players aged 6 and up, so the whole family can have fun together.

Ear Plugs

Hurricanes can be LOUD. With wind speeds varying from 96-157 mph, there’s a lot of noise going on outside during one of these storms. The winds also pick up debris that might bang against your hotel windows. Between all of that hullabaloo, we don’t blame you if you have a hard time sleeping!

Loop Quiet Ear Plugs

To combat the noise, bring some ear plugs. These ones by Loop may seem a little pricey compared to the typical disposable ones, but if you consider the fact that you can reuse them over and over again the cost starts to make sense. They also have over 20,000 reviews, with plenty saying they are the best earplugs they’ve ever used! Plus, when you consider how much you have spent on your trip, another twenty bucks is a small price to pay for a restful night’s sleep.
