Disney World probably looks different now than it did the last time you visited. Imagineers are constantly working to update existing attractions and add new features!
There are several upcoming NEW attractions, like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (which opens this week in EPCOT!) and TRON: Lightcycle Run. But you’ve also got to watch out for refurbishments on existing attractions. So let’s see what’s going to be CLOSED in Disney World from May 23rd through the 29th.
Magic Kingdom Refurbishments
Walt Disney World Railroad
The Walt Disney World Railroad is continuing its long closure in Magic Kingdom. The main reason this attraction is unavailable is because of construction on the upcoming TRON: Lightcycle Run coaster, which is located in Tomorrowland.
Although we’ve seen the train testing a few times, the Railroad likely won’t reopen until construction wraps up on TRON. We don’t have an end date for that project yet, but we’ll keep you posted with any new updates!
Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique
Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is still closed in Magic Kingdom, Disney Springs, and at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort.
But Disney has announced that this salon will reopen sometime this year! So before 2022 is over, you’ll be able to take your little ones in to be transformed into princesses or princes.
Harmony Barber Shop
Harmony Barber Shop on Main Street, U.S.A., is where you can actually get your hair cut in Disney World! This spot has been closed for a while, but it’ll reopen on July 31st, 2022.
Reservations open on June 28th, so you can book an appointment for an adult haircut, child’s haircut, or “My First Haircut” for toddlers.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Refurbishments
Finding Nemo: The Musical
In Animal Kingdom, Finding Nemo: The Musical has been closed for a long time as well. This show will reopen sometime this summer as Finding Nemo: The Big Blue…and Beyond!
The updated show will feature some new characters from Disney Pixar’s Finding Dory.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios Refurbishments
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
In Hollywood Studios, guests still can’t head into Voyage of the Little Mermaid. This show is closed right now (and has been for a while).
Disney hasn’t released an opening date for the attraction, but we’ll be watching for any updates.
Star Wars: Launch Bay
Star Wars: Launch Bay is another spot that’s currently closed. This area normally has character meet-and-greets, displays of props from the Star Wars movies, and merchandise.
You can still go inside right now to see some of the displays (and escape the heat), but there aren’t any characters meeting guests here at the moment.
Fantasmic!
We can’t wait for Fantasmic! to return to this park! Disney has announced that the show will return sometime this year, but we don’t know exactly when that will happen.
Like the Finding Nemo show in Animal Kingdom, Fantasmic! will have some updates when it returns. New characters (including Moana and characters from Frozen), technology, and stunts will be featured.
Learn more about the CHANGES coming to Fantasmic! here.
Disney World Water Park Refurbishments
Blizzard Beach
Disney World’s Blizzard Beach water park is closed right now, and Disney hasn’t announced when it could reopen.
However, Typhoon Lagoon (Disney World’s other water park) is currently open for guests to visit!
Learn more about Typhoon Lagoon here.
Disney World Resort Refurbishments
Note that none of the hotels on this list are fully closed. Each of them just has some refurbishments going on in certain parts of the resort.
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort
While Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort is still open for guests, the hotel is currently working on 200 new DVC Resort Studios that will occupy the Big Pine Key building.
The rooms should be open in late June of this year, and you can book your reservations now if you want to stay in them! These studios will have a Mary Poppins Returns theme.
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is also getting some more DVC rooms. In fact, the hotel will have a whole new building full of new DVC villas.
The building will take over the area previously occupied by the Spirit of Aloha dinner party, so that event is now permanently closed. The DVC villas should be completed sometime in late 2024.
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campgrounds
At Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campgrounds, the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue will finally reopen soon! The show will return on June 23rd, 2022.
Reservations will open THIS WEEK for Hoop-Dee-Doo — starting on May 26th you’ll be able to book your spot.
