A Restaurant, Two Pools, and Six Attractions Closed in Disney World This Week

Occasionally, a Disney attraction will close for maintenance or refurbishment.

Mad Tea Party

If you’re planning a trip to Disney World, it’s important to know what rides will be closed for your trip. Today, we’re bringing you a refurbishment update on all the attractions scheduled to be closed from February 22nd through February 28th, 2021.

Kali River Rapids

Kali River Rapids usually closes for scheduled maintenance each winter, when the weather is colder. Sure enough, it closed this January as demand for the water ride dropped.

It’s scheduled to open back up on April 2nd, so you can get a good splash then!

EPCOT Refurbishments

Rose and Crown Dining Room

This table-service restaurant in EPCOT’s United Kingdom Pavilion closed for refurbishment on February 15th. We’re expecting some pretty quick work on this one — it’s scheduled to be back open on March 21st!

Of course, that reopening date is subject to change. In the meantime, the Pub and Yorkshire County Fish Shop will remain open.

Walt Disney World Railroad

The Walt Disney World Railroad has remained closed while construction on TRON: Lightcycle Power Run continues. That construction blocks the tracks, so the train stations throughout the park stay shuttered.

Train in Fantasyland Station

We’re still not sure when the railroad will be open, since Disney has not yet announced an opening date for TRON. However, our best guess is sometime in 2022.

Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover

Another Magic Kingdom ride that has been closed for a while is the PeopleMover. It’s been unavailable since March 2020, and its reopening date has been pushed back several times.

For now, we’re expecting the PeopleMover to reopen on March 1st, 2021. We’ve seen extensive testing on the ride recently, so we have some hope!

The Hall of Presidents

The Hall of Presidents is currently closed to install an audio-animatronic for President Joe Biden. This scheduled refurbishment happens each time a new president is elected!

Disney World Resort Refurbishments

There’s lots of working being down at some hotels. At Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, the entryway, lobby, and monorail station are all being refurbished. We’re also getting re-done guest rooms with a Moana theme! These projects should wrap up over the summer.

Polynesian Resort Lobby

Over by the pool, Kiki Tikis Splash Play area is also being refurbished — it should open at the end of March. Other pools receiving work are The Big Blue Pool at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort (closed through early April) and the Hippy Dippy Pool at Disney’s Pop Century Resort (closed through early March).

Pop Century Construction

Lastly, two waterslides are undergoing some maintenance. Both The Paddock Pool waterslide at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort and the Stormalong Bay waterslide at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort are both closed, but their pools remain open.
