We’re Ranking The Thrill Rides at Universal Orlando Resort!

Universal Orlando Resort seriously knows how to do thrill rides! But which of these attractions reigns supreme?

We went ahead and ranked our favorite thrill rides at both Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure! Take a look and let us know in the comments if you agree with our picks!

Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure

At the very top of our list is the newest thrill ride to open at Universal Orlando Resort, Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. This roller coaster is, in a word, marvelous, and was consistently the top-ranked thrill ride amongst our team!

It seems like most guests who visit Universal Orlando Resort agree with us, too! Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure has consistently some of the longest lines in Islands of Adventure, but for good reason! This isn’t your every day roller coaster.

The ride combines the traditional elements of a coaster with animatronics, as well as various effects and even a surprise DROP at the end of the ride! Who can say they’ve been on a roller coaster with a free-fall style drop?

Revenge of the Mummy

For the second-place thrill ride in Universal Orlando, we’re shifting gears from the newest thrill ride to one that’s been around for quite some time! Revenge of the Mummy opened in 2004 and has since been one of our favorite classic dark-ride/roller coaster hybrids.

While there are plenty of newer, faster, and flashier rides in the park, Revenge of the Mummy is a stellar example of how older attractions can stand the test of time and remain favorites!

Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts

We’re heading back to the Wizarding World for the next couple of top picks for Universal Orlando thrill rides! Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts ranked third on our team’s list of favorite thrilling attractions. The flagship attraction for the Diagon Alley expansion of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter combines all of our favorite elements in a Harry Potter-themed ride. Its immersive queue sets the scene and feels like a part of the ride itself.

The ride’s storyline makes us feel like we’re really part of the action and taking part in a high-thrills epic Harry Potter adventure! If you’re a fan of Transformers: The Ride and The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man at Universal, then you will definitely be a big fan of Escape from Gringotts, too!

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey

When Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey first opened in 2012, guests were blown away by the highly sophisticated ride system. It’s truly one-of-a-kind that we have yet to see replicated or topped!

Our love for this ride starts in the queue, where you travel through Hogwarts Castle and get a first-hand look at some of our favorite rooms, from the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom to Dumbledore’s office!

When it’s time to ride, you board a unique ride vehicle system and are whisked off on what is frankly one of the most terrifying adventures we’ve ever been on. Forbidden Journey definitely re-defined what a “thrill” ride could accomplish!

The Incredible Hulk Coaster

When people think of Universal Orlando Resort, one of the first images that may come to mind is the iconic structure that is The Incredible Hulk Coaster.

The Incredible Hulk is an opening day attraction for Islands of Adventure, thrilling guests since May 28, 1999. It’s also one of two opening day attractions on our list! There’s a reason this attraction has stuck around for over twenty years, and despite its age, it still ranks as a top thrill ride for us!

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit

Up next on our list of top thrill rides is Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. This unique coaster opened in 2009 and has remained one of the most intense roller coasters in all of Universal Orlando Resort.

What makes it so thrilling? For starters, as soon as you sit down in the coaster, you get to choose the song that you want to listen to while you ride! This makes for a totally unique experience for each individual rider! But it REALLY gets serious when the vehicle takes off. That’s because the initial lift is a 90 degree vertical chain lift! Oh, and did we mention that you’re FILMED the entire time you’re on the ride? So be sure to put on your brave face when you ride!

Doctor Doom’s Fearfall

We’re wrapping up our list with Doctor Doom’s Fearfall, the other opening day attraction for Islands of Adventure that made our list! Fans of free-fall style attractions will love this attraction, but those with a fear of heights may find this ride thrilling for all the WRONG reasons.

Think Tower of Terror, but completely outside! At 185 feet tall, this attraction definitely ‘towers’ above the rest of the park!
