Just wanted to let you know that you can now purchase the Deluxe Dining plan when booking your room using the military discount. We will be taking a trip in October and were able to book the Deluxe plan this week! Previously, you were only able to purchase the basic dining when staying in a room at a military rate. I always start walking more on the treadmill to get ready for all the Disney walking on a trip. This time, I went and bought a new pair of tennis shoes six months prior to the trip. I kept them only to walk on the treadmill. I then took them with me to Disney. They still looked brand new since they were only used in the house on the treadmill, but they were well broken in for the trip. - Shannon
Regarding hurricanes at Walt Disney World -- We were at Port Orleans French Quarter during Hurricane Jeanne. WDW is FABULOUS about keeping their guests well-informed, by both phone and written notices. They take safety very seriously. For anyone traveling when a hurricane is brewing out in the Atlantic, I'd suggest packing some extra snacks, and also extra toys/games for the children. The parks were closed for one evening (after 5 p.m.) and the entire following day during "Jeanne." But we had Disney Yahtzee (in a zipper-top bag -- box takes up too much space), Disney Uno, etc. as well as some princess Polly Pockets to help pass time while in the room. Food was available prior to the storm, but the food services were totally closed up the entire next day. Having snacks packed was invaluable, and we even shared with our neighbors next door. After frantically trying to figure out how to identify our camera if lost, I walked past a pet ID tag engraving machine and immediately thought, "Wow, that will work!" I got the smallest tag I could find, engraved our name and cell phone number on it, and hung it from the wrist strap. Problem solved and it was simple and cheap! - Lisa Bufo

Regarding the Disney Visa discount: The discount is valid in all Disney stores that sell Disney merchandise on property. However, the guest must indicate that they want to make use of the discount. Cast members are not allowed to automatically apply the discount... Keep this in mind when you go up to the register to pay. - Filipa Douma

My children love looking for "hidden Mickeys." We have discovered a way to practice searching while at home. We realized that there are a number of hidden Mickeys placed in the Playhouse Disney show, "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse." Apart from the more obvious ones, there are other Mickeys in the backgrounds of scenes that are more subtle and fleeting, but every bit as legitimate. Sometimes we even go so far as to try to count how many we can find in each episode! - Chris Morris
To keep the thread, no pun intended, of lost glasses pins/screws going, here is a tip to keep from losing them in the first place -- put a drop of clear nail polish on the thread end of the screw and it will act like Loctite®. - Marc

Magic Kingdom - We have a GREAT spot for the afternoon parade in the Magic Kingdom but you have to get there early. After you cross over the bridge into Liberty Square there is a little cart where they handpaint umbrellas. Well, next to that cart is a much larger umbrella mounted into the ground -- SHADE! Even Lady Tremaine, Drizella and Anastasia thought it was a good spot -- while we were viewing the parade in June, they stopped and told us we were the smartest peasants they had seen all day. How kind!! Then the last float in the parade stopped right in front of us and all the characters came off to dance and interact with the crowd. It was awesome!! I am sharing this with everyone on one condition - you have to promise to let us have our spot when we are there next June. - Sharon Stieg

I saw the tip from the reader regarding getting her husband's eyeglasses repaired at the Magic Kingdom watch store. On our trip in April, the screw in my mother's eyeglasses came out. We were staying on property and called the front desk to see if they would happen to have an eyeglass repair kit. They did and promptly brought it to our room-free of charge. My mother now carries it in her purse for any future accidents. - Tracie Smith

I don't know if it has been mentioned, but you can only make your online dining reservations if you have fewer than 10 people in your group. We have 14 in our group and I still had to call the group number to make our dining reservations. (For groups of 10 or more, call 407-939-5665.) - Melissa Speegle

Epcot - When in Epcot's World Showcase pavilions, I try to have my children say at least one phrase in the native language of the Kidcot host or hostess. It is amazing the response that can be elicited from a simple "Cheers!", "Hola, buenos dias!" or my favaorite "as salaam alekem" (Morocco). We have ALWAYS been met with incredible warmth and extra kindness. Take the time to learn a few easy phrases, stand back and watch a world of smiles unfold! - Tom McManus
