Tips for Disney Parks & Cruise Lines

Another important thing to think about in relation to heat exhaustion is sodium intake. Sodium in your body helps it maintain healthy fluid levels. If your sodium is depleted, rehydrating will be more difficult. So, for example, if you've had a WDW morning where you skipped breakfast, had just a piece of fruit mid-morning, and then are getting heat-exhaustion symptoms mid-day, along with rehydrating, you need some fries or chips or something with some salt. Of course, if you suffer from high blood pressure or other cardiovascular issues and are on a limited salt intake, be sure to ask your doctor if it is OK to increase your sodium intake in the case of heat exhaustion BEFORE going to WDW. - Rhoda Smith

I encountered problems using My Disney Experience, and more than once the App wasn't working during our recent trip. I used my smart phone to snap a screen shot photo of each day's itinerary through My Disney Experience, and then I simply scrolled my photos to check our daily itinerary vs. trying to connect to the App. - Sandy in CT

All Resorts - Disney resorts themselves have a limited number of wheelchairs, which they will allow you to use for free for the length of your stay. I found this out when a member of my party fell and broke her ankle on property. If you go to the main desk, they'll ask you to "sign out" the wheelchair like a library book. It can be taken anywhere: your room, the parks, Disney Springs, off property. Best of all, unlike rented chairs, it doesn't need to be returned and picked up again daily. You just need to make sure it is returned before you leave. - Melody Townley

EDITOR'S NOTE: Please note, you can not check into the resort and expect a free wheelchair for your stay. The loaner chairs are for unexpected accidents as described above. If you need a wheelchair, push or electric, during your stay, AllEars recommends

Our daughter was only 4 the first time we took her Walt Disney World and we thought she might forget quite a bit of her trip, so we typed up each night that we were there what we did each day so we wouldn't forget. When we got home, we filled a Disney photo album with 200 pictures and labeled the days. Before each day is the typed sheet of the daily events and comments (written diary style) that she can read and then look at the day's pictures to remember her trips. - Lisa Thompson

I always pack extra large plastic zipper baggies to bring home wet bathing suits. I also pack plastic hangers, the ones that come with items from the stores, regular ones for bathing suits and ones with the clips for trunks. These let bathing suits dry quicker than flipping them over the shower rod. - Sue Pletsch

Create a simple, inexpensive scrapbook. Before a magical vacation, look for Disney theme stickers on sale and a scrapbook with at least 15 - 20 pages at a discount store such as Walmart or Target. While on your magical vacation save 'free' items such as a few unused fast passes, napkins, resort papers and key, airline stubs, pressed pennies, paper menus (just ask to keep it). Also remember to take some pictures of your resort, the monorail and Disney bus, views from your window and in the parks, favorite rides, and your family photos. When you arrive home from your magical vacation, create your scrapbook with everything you have collected, plus some cutouts and ride descriptions from your old guide book. After a few years, you will be glad you created a scrapbook. It will bring back many magical memories of where you stayed and ate, a description of what you did, and how you traveled about. Enjoy! I hope the above helps Disney fans have magical memories without spending a fortune. - Wendy

I've always kept receipts and written records of all our trips to WDW, starting in September 1971. In the '90s when we bought our first computer I put it all in. I can tell you the dates, the resort and room number, room rate, who joined us and the highlights of each of the 62 visits (430 nights) that we have stayed in Disney resorts. I also include highlights of each trip, like meeting Miss America and Bob Hope in the Studios, my wife singing with Bob Jackson in the Cotton Co-op and all the other magical moments we have enjoyed. - Mike Shook

In order to cut down on food expenses, I always bring my crockpot along when we drive to Florida. I mix up dinner before we leave our condo for the day. When we return supper is done! I have also found make-ahead breakfast casseroles that cook in the crock while we sleep. If we eat a hearty breakfast we usually only need to eat one meal at the parks. - Theresa Denton

If you do autograph collecting with your kids, be sure to write the child's name (or have the child write it) on the inside cover of the autograph book. When we went to visit Ariel, my daughter asked her, "Do you remember me?" Ariel, with an amazing degree of subtlety, snuck a quick peek inside the cover of the autograph book and replied, "Well of course I do, Anna!" Our daughter never noticed the sneak peek, and was absolutely delighted that Ariel "remembered" her. - Cari Brooks

When our daughter was younger we decided to countdown to Disney. We got a Disney-themed calendar and wrote the countdown days on it. On each day we would attach stars (or small Disney stickers) that represented money our daughter earned doing her chores. She got $.50 to $2 per day. She enjoyed counting the stickers on the pages. I enjoyed knowing she had her own money for souvenirs. - David Colvard

Another helpful hint to those parents whose children like to collect rocks. My kids each bought rocks at the store next to Country Bear Jamboree. While my 7-year-old daughter put hers in the checked luggage, my 11-year-old son put his in his carry-on (and in the mild chaos of making sure everything was packed, it never occurred to me to not have him pack it there). Well, a fist-sized round rock will get you extra time in the security area! Due to its size and shape, they had to pull the carry-on to open it up for extra screening to see what the unidentifiable object (the rock!) was. Amusingly, the security officer asked before he even opened it up if my son had bought a rock as a souvenir... evidently he's seen many come through. So save yourselves the extra time getting through security and pack any rocks in your checked luggage. - Vickie
