5 Mistakes Rookies Make at Disney World Security

Moving through Walt Disney World security has sometimes been called the “first ride of the day” thanks to the long lines that can develop during the early morning hours.

While a wait to get through security is almost inevitable, some avoidable rookie mistakes can slow the process down further. If you’re going to Disney World for the first time — or the first time in a long time — watch out for these security faux pas.

Don’t Try to Bring in Prohibited Items

From selfie sticks and tripods to alcohol, weapons, and drones, there are a litany of times that guests are prohibited from bringing into Walt Disney World’s theme parks. Suffice to say, anyone who tries to bring in a prohibited item is going to be turned away, and slow down the security lines for everyone else.

Not Knowing That Certain Items May Trigger Bag Checks

While items including umbrellas, metal water bottles, external phone batteries, and glasses cases are not prohibited, leaving them in your bag while passing through the EVOLV scanners may end up triggering extra bag checks due to their shapes and sizes. Instead, carry them through the scanner in your hands.

Don’t Think a Clear Bag Won’t be Searched

Speaking of bags, while it’s not the worst idea to use a clear bag — similar to those allowed at major sporting events and concerts — using one won’t automatically mean security personnel won’t open your bag or check inside.

Don’t Realize Riding the Monorail Requires Going Through Security

If a guest doesn’t know they need to go through security to ride the Walt Disney World Monorail, they may ruin the start of their day, not to mention back up plenty of other guests behind them.

Don’t Remove Children from Their Strollers

If you’re arriving at one of Disney’s theme parks with a stroller, the quickest and most efficient way to get it through security is to send it through the security scanner by itself, while having your child walk through with you.

Don’t Disrespect Security Personnel

This one should be common sense. Like all other Cast Members, guests need to treat Security Cast Members with respect and listen to their instructions and directions at all times. They are truly just doing their best to keep you and everyone else safe!
