NEW Rules You Need to Know Before Your Next Trip to Magic Kingdom

2026 is a time of massive change at the Magic Kingdom, as major construction projects and refurbishments dominate the park’s landscape. All that work towards the future has led to some new “rules” to keep in mind when visiting in the present.

If you’re planning on visiting Disney World’s first theme park this summer, we’d definitely recommend keeping these rules in mind.

Be Aware of Construction in Frontierland

Both of the park’s massive construction projects, the Cars-themed Piston Peak, which is being built on the former site of the Rivers of America and Villains Land, which is rising in the space “beyond” Big Thunder Mountain, are taking place in Frontierland.

While in the future, this will make the area the park’s crown jewel, in the present, it’s turned the northwest portion of the park into a maze of construction walls to navigate. However, that’s not the only part of the park impacted…

Walt Disney World Railroad Shuttle

For the duration of the construction projects, the Walt Disney World Railroad has been rerouted. Instead of circumnavigating the park, the locomotive is operating only a shuttle between the Main Street and Fantasyland railroad stations.

Castle Repaint

While not a full construction project in the same vein as the Frontierland projects, guests should be aware that the park’s icon, Cinderella Castle, is undergoing a refurbishment of its own. In 2025, Disney announced that the castle would be reverted to a more traditional blue and grey color scheme. Work on the castle began in late January, which has led to some changes in the park’s day-to-day schedule.

For starters, you’ll still be able to get your unobstructed iconic castle photos later in the day, as the cranes on-site to aid with the painting will be lowered by noon each day. In addition, the Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire show — which takes place on the Cinderella Castle stage — is scheduled for afternoons only at 1:00 PM, 2:05 PM, 4:00 PM, and 5:15 PM. The Let The Magic Begin welcome show, which usually starts at 8:55 AM for guests just entering the park, is currently on hiatus.

Storybook Circus Characters Temporarily Relocated

Usually, guests can meet the Dashing Disney Pals at Pete’s Silly Sideshow at Storybook Circus, but the characters have been “temporarily unavailable” since January 4th.

Guests can currently meet the marvelous Goofy, Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, and Goofy — in their circus garb —  outside in Storybook Circus.

Early Entry Characters

During the Cool Kids Summer promotion, which runs from May 26th to September 8th, hotel guests eligible for Early Entry will be able to meet a rotating cast of Disney characters before the park opens to the general public. So, the only question is: What will you try and rope drop, characters or rides?

Refurbished Icons

2026 will see two massive reopenings in the form of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. Both of these attractions have undergone extensive refurbishments that will see new tracks and a Rainbow Caverns sequence added to the former, while a new opening sequence, ride vehicles, and blasters will be added to the latter.

Both rides are scheduled to return sometime in the spring or summer of 2026; however, depending on when you visit, there’s a chance you could miss these new experiences, so keep an eye out for confirmed dates.
