Why We’re Worried Disney’s Dreaded Crowd Rule Is Coming to Magic Kingdom

Disney World is changing.

Magic Kingdom

While the parks may be flooded with closures and construction this year and in the coming years, the good news is that they will give us so many new and exciting lands and attractions. One of the most anticipated new areas is Villains Land, which is set to lie “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain.” Fans have been begging for this land to come to fruition, and since we expect it to be widely popular, we are a bit nervous that Disney could implement a dreaded crowd rule.

Disney World is currently Virtual Queue-less, as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind stopped using the service at the end of February 2025. We expect Virtual Queues to make their return when new attractions open, like the Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster in Hollywood Studios

While we are used to Virtual Queues only being implemented for attractions, Disney has actually used Virtual Queues and other similar systems in the past to limit crowds when a new land opens. For example, when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened on the West Coast in Disneyland, it operated on a Virtual Queue system, where you would have to obtain a boarding group in order to enter the land.

Overseas, Fantasy Springs opened last summer at Tokyo DisneySea. This new land is beautiful and has many new and exciting attractions. When the land first opened, Disney used a unique crowd control system to limit the number of people in it. Tokyo does not have Virtual Queues; instead, it uses a lottery system known as an “Entry Request.”

Just like Virtual Queues, you can join Entry Request through the Tokyo Disney Resort app. This entrance pass grants you access to select character meet and greets and even shops. The good news is that last month, entry restrictions for the land were lifted.

While we may not see the term “Entry Request” state-side, we would not be surprised if, in order to visit Villains Land during its opening months, you would have to obtain a boarding group via Virtual Queue, just like Disneyland did for Galaxy’s Edge in 2019. Once again, nothing is confirmed, as Disney has hardly released any details about this new land.

We have our fingers crossed that we will be able to enter and exit the land without restrictions when it finally opens in Magic Kingdom years from now.
