The 12 Disney World Hacks I Won’t Shut Up About

I’ve been going to Disney World for 30 years, and in that time I’ve tried hundreds of so-called “genius” hacks, but these are the ones I actually use, and you should too.

The thing about me is that I’m going to give you a full lesson if you ask me one question about Disney World. I LOVE talking about it because I genuinely want people to enjoy their vacations. After decades of vacationing here, working as an AllEars reporter in the parks, and writing about the best Disney hacks, I’ve narrowed down my list of ones you actually need to do in order to save you time, money, and maybe your sanity.

1. Head to the Shops for Your Discounted Drinks

If you have an Annual Passholder, Disney Visa, or other eligible discount, buy your soda or bottled water from a gift shop instead of an outdoor vendor. Drinks purchased in retail locations are considered merchandise, which means your discount actually applies! It’s a small switch that can save you a few dollars a day, especially if you’re buying bottled drinks often.

2. Mobile Order Breakfast Ahead of Time

If you’re rope dropping, chances are you’re so focused on getting to the park early that breakfast becomes an afterthought. Mobile order breakfast before you arrive, so food is ready when you are, means no standing in long morning lines or realizing you’re starving halfway through your first ride. This works especially well at Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, where morning touring is fast-paced and energy matters.

3. Ride Attractions While Everyone Else is Distracted

Fireworks and parades pull massive crowds away from ride queues, making them one of the best times to ride popular attractions with shorter waits. While others are camped out for a viewing spot, you can often walk onto rides that normally have long lines.

Now, I am NOT saying you should never watch the parade or fireworks at Magic Kingdom, but I am saying if you have seen them before or are spending multiple days there, you can knock out some rides during this time. If fireworks aren’t a must-do for your group, this is one of the easiest ways to maximize your evening.

4. Buy Disney Gift Cards to save money

Buying Disney gift cards at a discount, like using a Target RedCard, is one of the simplest ways to save money without changing how you vacation. You can use them for hotels, park tickets, food, and merchandise across Disney World. Even a small percentage off adds up quickly over the course of a full trip. My family loads up ahead of time to pay off our room, have them for souvenirs, food, and more.

5. Split Meals Where It Matters

Quick service portions at Disney are often large enough to share, especially at lunch when you don’t want something heavy slowing you down. Splitting meals saves money and keeps you from feeling overly full in the heat. If you’re still hungry later, grab a snack. A few of my favorite places to do this at is Flame Tree Barbecue and Columbia Harbour House.

6. Lounges > Table Service Restaurants

Many Disney lounges offer food from the same kitchen as nearby table service restaurants, but with less commitment and often easier walk-up availability. You’ll still get high-quality dishes without being locked into a long meal or strict reservation time. This is especially useful on busy days when your schedule needs flexibility. My go-to is Nomad Lounge in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which shares a kitchen with Tiffins, a signature dining restaurant.

7. Save Money on Margs

In EPCOT, La Cava del Tequila is iconic, but it’s also crowded and can involve a long wait. Choza de Margarita, the outdoor bar in the Mexico pavilion, serves many of the same margaritas without the hassle. You’ll save time, skip the line, and still get a fantastic drink, especially on hot EPCOT days.

8. Bring a Bag for Security

If you’re traveling with a stroller, security can become a juggling act. You will need to remove everything from under the stroller when you get up to the officer. Toss everything from the stroller into a large reusable tote before security so it’s easy to walk through the scanner. It speeds up the process, keeps your items together, and makes getting back on your way much smoother.

9. Stay HERE For Early Coffee Access

If early mornings are part of your Disney strategy, Bay Lake Tower or Disney’s Contemporary Resort has a huge advantage: they have a Joffrey’s Coffee Bar in the hotel, and it opens early at 5:30 AM. That makes it one of the earliest places on property to grab caffeine before rope drop. For coffee lovers, this convenience alone can be a game-changer.

10. Akershus For Breakfast is Superior

At EPCOT, Akershus Royal Banquet Hall offers character dining with princesses at a lower price point than Cinderella’s Royal Table. You still get great food and plenty of princess interaction, but without paying the premium for dining inside the castle. It’s an excellent value for families who want the experience without the extra cost. Plus, you can rope drop Frozen Ever After before heading to your dining reservation.

11. Use Mobile Checkout

Mobile checkout lets you skip the register entirely and pay through the My Disney Experience app. This can save a surprising amount of time in busy gift shops, especially after fireworks or at park closing. Fewer lines mean less stress and more time enjoying your day. It also automatically applies any discounts you have connected to your app.

12. Use Bell Services to Hold Your Luggage

On arrival or departure days, bell services can hold your luggage so you can enjoy the parks without dragging bags around or wasting time. This is especially helpful if your room isn’t ready yet or you have a late flight home. It’s a free service that adds flexibility and makes travel days far more enjoyable.
