Fair warning: if you haven’t ridden Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind yet, this article will contain spoilers! So, if you want to be surprised, we suggest you turn back now.

If you are still reading, we are glad you decided to stay! Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is one of the newer attractions at EPCOT. It is a roller coaster adventure through space as you help the Guardians of the Galaxy save the world.
If you love thrill rides, chances are you will be a fan of this attraction. You zip and turn your way through space on a super smooth roller coaster. The ride has some unique sensations, and you exit the attraction feeling pretty excited.

Only to be met with a fairly plain exit. Luckily, it isn’t just white walls; it seems like Disney cheaped out a bit when decorating the exit of the attraction. But there is actually a very good reason why it looks the way it does!

To explain why the exit is a bit dull, we will need to dive a bit into what the attraction is supposed to be. The technical name of the attraction is “The Wonders of Xandar.” At least, that is what you will see as you enter the building. However, on Disney maps, you will see it as Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

But, the reason you will see “The Wonders of Xandar” as you are entering is that you are supposed to be entering a pavilion dedicated to Xandar. Once you enter inside, you will make your way through exhibits about the people and culture of Xandar. It is designed to be similar to the other pavilions in the World Showcase to help you learn about that specific culture. In this case, you are learning about Xandar.

All of the Cast Members who work at Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind are Xandarians. They traveled from Xandar to work at EPCOT to help teach visitors more about their home planet, just like all the other pavilions at the World Showcase. If you are in Germany, you will be able to interact with German Cast Members. At the Wonders of Xandar, you will be able to interact with Xandarians.

Now, it might feel like we have gotten off track from our original curiosity, but we promise it all connects; just bear with us! When you enter the pre-shows, you are still in the Wonders of Xandar, and to further amaze their visitors, the Xandarians are going to teleport you up to one of their ships to show off the Cosmic Generator.

So far, everything is going as planned until the Cosmic Generator is stolen. Not the Cosmic Generator! The Guardians of the Galaxy devise a plan to retrieve the Cosmic Generator, but that involves putting you on Starjumper to follow the bad guy.

From this point forward, you are entering into areas that you technically weren’t supposed to be in the first place. You were supposed to go on board the ship, see the demonstration of the Cosmic Generator, and then return to EPCOT. But now you are going to save the world!

You board your Starjumper, have some fun, save the world, and then return back to EPCOT. When you return to EPCOT, you are actually returning to where the Xandarians who work at the attraction arrive to work. Think of it as a train station for the Xandarians to get to work at the Wonders of Xandar.

As you get off your Starjumper, you will notice that all the signs are in the Xandarian language, which is relatively bland. While transportation stations could be pretty and well-decorated, most are simply there to be functional. That is why the exit of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is so plain. It can definitely be a confusing part of the attraction, but we think it makes it so much cooler when you understand why it looks the way it does.

Fun fact: if you happen to know the Xandarian language (or have a few minutes to determine what each letter represents), all the signs actually mean something. If you can determine what each letter represents in English, you will be able to understand what the signs mean. You will see a sign that says “Exit to EPCOT,” and the mirror at the very end of the attraction is supposed to be there so the Xandarians can make sure they look presentable before they head to work.

So the next time you get off Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, take a moment to appreciate the attraction’s exit. It may not be the most eye-catching area, but it fits into the attraction’s theme perfectly.
