Dinosaur is officially about to go extinct.
Months after it was confirmed that Dinosaur would be closing as part of the Tropical Americas reimagining/expansion at Animal Kingdom, Disney has officially confirmed when the opening day Animal Kingdom attraction will be closing for its transformation into an Indiana Jones experience.
Disney has officially confirmed that Dinosaur will be closing on February 2nd, 2026.
That’s right, Dinosaur won’t be the only thing closing on February 2nd. The fan favorite attraction, along with The Dino Institute Shop, Restaurantosaurus, and Restaurantosaurus Lounge, will all be closing on the same day. The last day to experience it all will be February 1st, 2026.
So…that means ALL of Dinoland’s last day will be at the beginning of February. It’s a bittersweet feeling — we love this attraction that opened with the park, but we are very excited for what’s on the horizon with the Indiana Jones-inspired ride.
Dinosaur’s transformation into an Indiana Jones attraction is oddly appropriate. As Disney aficionados know, Dinosaur’s ride system, track layout, and physical experience were clones of the original Indiana Jones Adventure, which opened at Disneyland in 1995. In other words, this transformation has a very full-circle feeling to it.
In addition to the Indiana Jones attraction, the new Tropical Americas area will also feature an Encanto attraction. The expansion’s construction and opening timetable has not been confirmed.
Hopefully, you’re able to make some time for a Disney World attraction within the coming months to experience not only the ride, but also strolling through the land one last time. We’ll be going on it countless times from now until it closes.
Dinosaur has been a staple at Animal Kingdom since the attraction debuted as Countdown to Extinction when the park opened in 1998.
