Deciding where to stay when visiting Walt Disney World is a major part of trip-planning for many guests, especially when deciding whether to stay on Disney property or not.

For many, a major pro in deciding to do so is Lightning Lane access.
Before we get into the park, a quick rundown of how Disney’s Lightning Lane systems work.
- Lightning Lane Multi Pass allows guests to plan ahead of their visit and choose up to 3 Multi Pass experiences and arrival windows in a theme park (7 days in advance of their stay for Disney hotel guests and 3 days in advance for non-hotel guests).
- Lightning Lane Single Pass allows guests to “Save time in line with a Lightning Lane Single Pass for one of our most in-demand attractions—those not available with Lightning Lane Multi Pass.” Single Passes are eligible to be purchased at the same time as their Multi Pass equivalents.
- Lightning Lane Premier Pass “allows one-time entry to each Lightning Lane experience in a theme park—to enjoy at your leisure that day,” which can once again be purchased beginning in the same purchase window.

Now that that’s clear, on to the perk for hotel guests. Those staying at Walt Disney World Hotels can begin booking their Lightning Lanes Multi Passes and Single Passes 7 days in advance of the first day of their stay for the duration of their stay (up to 14 days). This is 4 days SOONER than non-Disney guests who’ve purchased theme park tickets.

This earlier booking window is especially valuable for rides that typically run out of their allotment of Lightning Lanes each day quickly. For example, let’s look at EPCOT. On an average day, all the Lightning Lane Multi Passes for Test Track were gone by 9:36 AM. In other words, the earlier in advance you’re able to book your Lightning Lane, the more likely you are to get one, especially if you want an early return time. If you’re curious, the Lightning Lanes that run out fastest at Walt Disney World’s other parks over the past year have been Peter Pan’s Flight at Magic Kingdom, Na’vi River Journey at Animal Kingdom, and Slinky Dog Dash at Hollywood Studios.

Of course, earlier Lightning Lane booking windows aren’t the only perks available to hotel guests. Others include:
- Free Water Park Tickets: In 2025, Disney introduced a new water park perk for hotel guests, which gave each member of their party admission to one of Walt Disney World’s water parks on their check-in day. The perk is returning in the summer of 2026.
- 30 Minute Early Entry: Guests staying at Disney Resort hotels (and select other hotels) can take advantage of a 30-minute early entry into each of Walt Disney World’s theme parks every day of their stay (including check-in and check-out days).
- Extended Evening Hours: Offered at select Walt Disney World theme parks on select nights. However, these two extra hours are only available to guests at Disney Deluxe Tier or Deluxe Villa resort guests.
- Dining Reservations: Disney hotel guests can also book their dining 60 days in advance of the first day of their stay, once again for the full duration of their stay (up to 14 days).

So with all that being said, clearly the answer to where to stay is on Disney property, right? Well, not quite. See, there are also several upsides to staying off Disney property. Some guests prefer staying at Good Neighbor Hotels — especially those that offer the same benefits of staying on property, including transportation — because they tend to be more malleable financially, and for some (believe it or not), the idea of not being completely immersed in Disney for their whole vacation. Many of these hotels also offer “breakfast, kitchenettes, and pet-friendly rooms.”

The ability to book Lightning Lanes earlier is a major draw for guests booking Disney hotel vacations. Stay tuned to AllEars for more tips on visiting the “Most Magical Place on Earth.”
