NEWS: Universal Orlando Extends Popular Ride Closure at Epic Universe

Back in January, it was announced that Epic Universe would see its first-ever ride closure due to a refurbishment.

It was announced that Fyre Drill would close from February 1st-7th for a regular refurbishment. However, as of yesterday, that closure has been extended — now, it won’t end until February 13th.

The change was quietly made to Universal Orlando’s closure page on Monday, February 2nd, and there’s been no specific reason started for the closure. It’s our assumption that the closure is due to more work needing to be done on the attraction, and as it’s been so cold in Orlando recently (and winter is typically the least popular time to ride water attractions), now truly is one of the best times to do this work.

This attraction is located in Isle of Berk, which has two other attractions as well that are open during this closure — Hiccup’s Wing Gliders and Dragon Racer’s Rally. We’ve already been seeing higher wait times in other Epic Universe attractions ahead of the closure to make up for the fact that, again, many people don’t want to get soaking wet in the winter, so the closure hasn’t affected things too much.

Fyre Drill is a water attraction where guests sit behind a water blaster and move through a track, attempting to hit as many targets as possible to put out the “fires” around them. However, some targets cause water to shoot onto the other boat you’re battling against — but beware, they can do the same to you!
