Disney World Visitors Almost Never Do These 9 Things — But This Week You Should

When it’s cold in Disney World, believe it or not, there are some things in the parks that are MUCH easier to do in comparison to when it’s hot outside.

Cinderella Castle

We’d even go as far as saying that there are some things we tell you to NEVER do in the parks, because it’s often just too hot for them, and you’ll be miserable, but with this cold weather in Disney World right now? For once, we’re actually telling you that you SHOULD do these nine things in the parks before it gets too warm!

Eat Hot Food and Drink Hot Drinks

There are some dishes around the resort that we ADORE, don’t get us wrong, but they’re just far too warm to have comfortably on hot days. For one, you’ve got hot coffee and hot chocolate from spots like Starbucks and Joffrey’s (plus that delicious hot chocolate from Ghirardelli’s in Disney Springs — YUM), but we’ve also got some favorite dining options that you’ve GOT to check out during this time before it gets too warm.

Lobster Bisque

Basically, if it’s served hot, NOW is the time to grab it! It’ll warm you up and make you feel cozy, instead of making you feel like you’re overheating and burning up inside.

See Those Indoor Shows

When it’s extremely hot OR cold in Disney World, it’s one of the best times to step inside and see all the indoor shows you often skip, especially if you’re a frequent Disney World visitor. In the summer, these provide you with some much-needed AC and a break from the heat, but in the summer, it gives you a place to warm up! Some of our favorites are:

Hall of Presidents

No matter what time of year it is, it also gives you a chance to rest your legs and take a little break, which is important. If it’s a SUPER cold day, you could even make the most of your day by seeing as many of the shows as you can!

Enjoy Your Meals Outside

Oftentimes, everyone is fighting for indoor seating in Disney World due to how hot it is outside, but when it’s cooler/colder, and if you’ve got a coat keeping you warm enough, it’s a great time to eat outside!

Woody’s Lunch Box seating

This is especially true at largely outdoor dining locations like Woody’s Lunch Box in Hollywood Studios or Flame Tree Barbecue in Animal Kingdom. You don’t need to look for a seat under an umbrella; you may be looking for a seat in the sun! Now, if you want to eat inside to warm up, we get that too, but if you can handle the chillier weather, we recommend enjoying sitting outside when you can.

Mid-Day Safari

When it’s colder outside, the Animal Kingdom animals are often more active, as the heat isn’t making them tired. During the spring, summer, and fall seasons, we recommend going on Kilimanjaro Safaris in the morning or as late in the day as you can due to the fact that the animals are more active. But during the winter and on cooler days? They’ll potentially be more active all day!

The lions on Kilimanjaro Safaris

There’s no guarantee of what you’ll see, which is what makes these safaris so fun — it’s never the same! The safari may also be more pleasant for you when you’re not baking in the sun, so we highly recommend checking it out during the winter months.

Drink Around The World With Less Nausea

Drinking around the world in EPCOT on hot days is NOT what we recommend. We’ve got many members of our team who have done this challenge, and they’re all in agreement that doing it in the heat is a recipe for disaster.

Are you ready to drink around the world?

If you’ve been wanting to do this challenge, we highly recommend doing it in the winter, on a day that’s colder. This is because alcohol dehydrates you, so when it’s already a hot day, that’s what can cause you to feel way worse faster than you’d expect, even if you’re doing your best to balance it out with water.

Buy and/or Wear Spirit Jerseys/Hoodies/Sweatshirts and Use Them Immediately

Oftentimes, when you’re buying items like Spirit Jerseys, hoodies, or sweatshirts in the parks, you’re buying them to wear back at home, or when winter hits. It’s rare that you can purchase one, and either put it on right then and there, or wear it another day on your vacation to get use out of it ASAP!

Are you a Spirit Jersey fan?

When it’s chilly outside, you’ll notice that Disney starts putting their jackets and sweatshirts closer to the entrance doors of shops, and that’s because they SELL. If you’ve been meaning to get one anyway, this is a great time to snag one, but keep a close eye out, because some styles may sell out fast.

Take Advantage of Hotel Campfires

If you’re staying at a Disney World hotel, did you know a TON of locations have access to campfires where you can make s’mores and otherwise just enjoy the heat of a fire? It’s true! During the winter is a perfect time to experience these. You can find them at the following locations:

  • Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort
  • Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
  • Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Jambo House
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village
  • Disney’s Beach Club Resort
  • Disney’s Beach Club Villas
  • Disney’s BoardWalk Inn
  • Disney’s BoardWalk Villas
  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
  • Disney’s Contemporary Resort
  • Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
  • Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
  • Disney’s Old Key West Resort
  • Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
  • Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows
  • Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter
  • Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside
  • Disney’s Riviera Resort

  • Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

  • The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
  • The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort

You can also enjoy Movies Under the Stars at all Disney World hotels, and if it’s not TOO chilly, we also recommend enjoying these — talk about a super fun way to watch some of your favorite Disney films! To be honest, we do this no matter the time of year when staying on property, but it’s best cold!

Don’t Stress About Overheating in Outdoor Lines

For some people, waiting for attractions that have long outdoor queues is nearly impossible during the summer heat, which inspired a lot of people to purchase Lightning Lane to skip those lines. However, the cold is a lot easier for many people to handle, so outdoor queues don’t cause as big of an issue, and you can save money by not buying Lightning Lane!

Slinky Dog Dash

One of the rides with the worst outdoor queue is none other than Slinky Dog Dash. People often BAKE in the sun in this line, and it’s far from pleasant. We’ve also heard people say similar things about Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Flight of Passage (if the line is long enough to be outside), as well as Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway (again, if the queue is too long). Now is the time to ride these rides without melting!

Take All The Photos and Videos Without Your Phone Overheating

There’s nothing worse than planning to take the best photo or video ever, only to find that your phone won’t cooperate because it’s too hot outside. Trust us, it’s happened to us MANY times, especially on festival days, and we’ve found it to be EXTREMELY annoying.

The heat in Disney World is no joke!

During the colder months, you won’t run into this problem. Now, your hands may feel slightly frozen, and that may be why you struggle to use your phone, but hey, at least it’s not overheating!
