We have some big news on Hollywood Studios‘ construction. The park is renovating two major areas – the former Muppet’s Courtyard will be transformed into a Monsters, Inc.– themed Monstropolis city, and Walt Disney Studios will be upgraded with a new look and the Magic of Disney Animation.

We’re patiently waiting to experience these two new lands, so when @bioreconstruct on X, formerly known as Twitter, posted some construction updates, we were on the edge of our seats. Here are some updates on Hollywood Studios’ Monstropolis and Animation Courtyard, and everything you need to know about them!
We’re so excited for the new Walt Disney Studios. The renovated area will feature recently opened The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure, add Disneyland’s Disney Jr. show, and The Magic of Disney Animation will take over Star Wars Launch Bay. It will have an animation experience where character artists will host drawing classes and character meet-and-greets with Pluto, Rapunzel, and Mulan. The new area will be modeled after Walt Disney Animation Studios in California, featuring our favorite sorcerer’s hat just like the real-life animation studio! The whole area is expected to open this summer!

Construction is underway with courtyard demolition and a fresh layer of concrete in front of The Little Mermaid show. The show is still open to guests during all of the construction.

In front of Disney Jr., new concrete has been cast for a walkway in front of the building, and there’s a temporary tent in the top right of the image below. There’s also a concrete form being assembled at the center.

At the former Star Wars Launch Bay, the marquee has been taken down, and the walkway has been removed. The outdoor courtyard inside the building remains untouched. Walt Disney Studios is expected to open sometime this year, but we don’t have an exact date yet.

On the other side of the park, construction is moving fast on Monstropolis. The concrete has been ripped up, and the PizzaRizzo and Muppet’s signs have been torn down. It looks like Disney might plan on keeping the urban exteriors for the area’s shopping and dining destinations instead of renovating them.

As for the highly anticipated Monsters, Inc. roller coaster, there is steady construction progress. They’re working on concrete forms for the building and adding sand to finished areas for added structural support. The ride will be Disney’s first-ever suspended roller coaster. We don’t have an opening date for this area yet, but we’ll keep you updated!

Disney is making good progress on both of these new lands. We’re so excited for them to be added to Hollywood Studios! Follow All Ears for more Hollywood Studios updates.
