I’d be absolutely SHOCKED if you’ve never thought of how amazing it would be to experience an empty Magic Kingdom!

Over the years, we’ve experienced Magic Kingdom in every way possible — from rope drop to park close, in rain to the blistering heat. Over the years, we’ve discovered something kinda controversial — we really don’t mind a cold and rainy day, so long as it clears out the crowds at “The Most Magical Place on Earth.”
Let’s not get it twisted. Rain or shine, Magic Kingdom is still the most visited theme park on Earth. Hurricanes haven’t exactly deterred folks from showing up. With that said, rain does generally disperse crowds, while lowering wait times and bringing a calmness to the parks — especially at night. A rainy day, where the weather eventually becomes super manageable, has become our favorite time to visit — and that got us thinking…

We asked our readers on Facebook, “Would you rather go to Magic Kingdom on a night where it’s RAINY & CHILLY but super empty, or on a perfect day with blue skies…But it’s crowded??” The responses were a bit divided.
Reader Glen wrote, “Less people = more magic.” We totally get that! When the park is emptier, it feels more personal — almost like you have the Magic Kingdom to yourself. You’re not worried about bumping into someone else or smelling all kinds of bad B.O. The experience becomes far more about what you’re seeing and feeling, rather than navigating crowds.
Reader NYleia added, “I have a poncho so bring on the rain!!!”

Reader Main Street Mitchell wrote, “Rainy dark days are such a unique vibe. I swear some areas are just better this way.” There’s a certain je ne sais quoi about the rain that’s absolutely gorgeous, especially at Magic Kingdom.
Reader Audress concurred, writing, “You can get some beautiful, ethereal photos just after a rain also!” It’s true, and we notice this the most at night! The light glistening off the ground and the cloudy skies can create such a wonderful and unique atmosphere.

However, a rainy, cold evening obviously still comes with significant downsides. Reader Becky wrote, “If the rain kills the night time parade and fireworks, I’m not going to be too happy since we only are able to come down there once a year if that much. Otherwise the rain and chill don’t bother us because we’re prepared for it.”
Alas, if the weather is bad enough, outdoor activities such as parades and fireworks will be canceled. Yeah, I can see the issue with traveling hundreds or thousands of miles hoping to get the fully Magic Kingdom experience, only to have some of the most memorable offerings not available.

Reader Grant mentioned closed attractions, writing, “It isn’t that I’m bothered by the rain, it’s that it closes so many attractions. I’VE NEVER SEEN FANTASMIC BECAUSE EVERY TIME I GO TO HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS IT GETS CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER!! Aside from that rain doesn’t bother me because I’m more than happy to do shows and indoor dark rides, but it is for the rest of my family because what they really like most are the outdoor rides.”
Unfortunately, Grant’s right. When the weather is bad enough, many outdoor attractions will pause operations, and that’s an easy way to have a day ruined. What’s the point of having no lines when the rides aren’t even open?

And then there are some harsh conditions the rain brings to the Magic Kingdom. Reader Tracy wrote, “Unpopular opinion here. I don’t like the rain. I don’t like how yucky it gets outside during and after the rain. Also, think that it’s more exciting when the parks are crowded. An empty park isn’t a good sign to me.”
For a lot of folks, the crowd is part of the experience. It makes the park feel more alive. The alternative is rain pellets smacking you in the face, and your socks are absolutely soaked because you were unable to avoid the giant pools of water on the ground.

Is there such a thing as a perfect day at Magic Kingdom? It all depends on how you go about it. For some, blue skies and great weather matter a whole heck of a lot more than ride wait times and elbow room. For others, they’d prefer it to be cold and rainy if it means fewer people in the park.
The good news is that both scenarios do realistically exist at Magic Kingdom! You can have a great time in both — as long as you come prepared!

And that’s where we come in! We literally visit Disney World every single day, and all those experiences have equipped us with packing tips that have prepared us for every scenario.
