We’re Getting STRESSED About Disney World’s New Suspended Coaster Ride

Walt Disney World is in a state of evolution, with massive projects coming to Magic Kingdom (Piston Peak, Villains Land), Animal Kingdom (Tropical Americas), and Hollywood Studios (Monsters, Inc. land).

After years of scaring, monsters are welcoming humans into Monstropolis with an all-new themed area inspired by the Disney and Pixar’s “Monsters, Inc.” film franchise.

It’s the latter we’re focused on today. While we’re over the moon excited about Monstropolis and the long-awaited roller coaster that will be at its center, there’s something about the attraction that has us a bit worried.

Located in the former Muppet Courtyard area, the new land will recreate the city from the 2001 Pixar film, with a massive recreation of the Monster’s Inc. headquarters, which will hold an attraction that recreates the film’s iconic door sequence.

The Monsters, Inc. door coaster attraction will be Disney World’s first suspended coaster. You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. When Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro announced the ride, he said, “Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

The reason we are worried about this attraction is that it has the potential to follow an unpopular Disney ride trend. Lately, when Disney opens a new attraction, it relies heavily on screens. People miss the days of practical effects and animatronics. While Disney usually mixes all the elements from the concept art, it seems like the new door coaster will rely on screens. It seems unlikely that the doors on the back of the wall will be a physical set.

During the 2025 SXSW Festival, Disney did reveal some new information about the coaster, confirming it will feature a vertical lift which will see guests “board the vehicle before being hoisted into the air (just like in the movie!) to zoom into the door vault.”  We will keep an eye out for any new information regarding the door coaster and the Monsters, Inc. Land as a whole, so make sure to continue to follow along with AllEars.

  1. I personally prefer rides to have animatronics but I don’t see that having screens should make you stressed. I’m sure Disney will make an excellent job of it.

  2. If I was Disney, I’d be stressed that Universal will complete and have open the replacement for Rip Ride Rocket, whatever is going in Lost Continent and the new 150,000 sq foot building and ride before the Monsters Inc roller coaster is in testing.

  3. I’m just hoping this new ride fits ‘normal sized people’, since my husband is too short and stocky to fit on Flight of passage or Tron, very disappointing.Every other ride is accommodating. Do better Disney.
